Office Chair Related Certificates

Admin October 09, 2026

The main certificates related to office chairs include BIFMA certification-related certificates and EU-related certification certificates. Details are as follows:

BIFMA Certification-Related Certificates:

  • ANSI/BIFMA Series Specifications: BIFMA is the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association in the United States. Its office furniture testing standards have been adopted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to form the ANSI/BIFMA series specifications. Among them, the ANSI/BIFMA X5.1 standard includes more than 20 technical requirements such as rotation tests and tilt mechanism fatigue tests, comprehensively covering stability, strength, and durability tests for office chairs and other products, making it an important standard for measuring office chair quality.
  • BIFMA LEVEL Certification: BIFMA has introduced a third-party certification program for product sustainability called BIFMA LEVEL, which conducts tiered assessments of products from three dimensions: environmental impact, physical and mental health, and social responsibility, helping consumers understand product performance in terms of sustainability.
  • BIFMA COMPLIANT Certification: BIFMA has launched a product registration program called BIFMA COMPLIANT that complies with safety and durability standards. In 2021, the BIFMA Compliant Compliance Program was initiated to ensure that products meet the safety and durability standards set by BIFMA.

EU-Related Certification Certificates:

  • CE Certification: CE certification is not a single certificate but a process by which manufacturers confirm through a declaration of conformity that a product meets relevant EU directives. For office chairs, this mainly involves the General Product Safety Directive and the Machinery Directive. Manufacturers are required to conduct risk assessments, take appropriate protective measures, and complete conformity assessments based on internal production control or third-party testing. Finally, the CE mark is affixed to the product to indicate its legal compliance. The EN1335 standard is an important technical route to prove that office chairs meet the safety requirements in CE certification. Manufacturers usually conduct tests based on this standard and obtain test reports as evidence of compliance.
  • EN1335 Certification: EN1335 is a mandatory safety standard for office chairs set by the EU, officially named 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs - Safety Requirements and Test Methods'. It consists of three parts: EN1335-1 specifies dimensional and structural requirements, EN1335-2 specifies stability test methods, and EN1335-3 specifies strength and durability test methods. Office chairs exported to the EU must pass these three tests to obtain CE certification and legally enter the market.
