Office Chair Refund

Admin October 09, 2026

The approach to refunding an office chair depends on the specific situation, mainly falling into the following three categories:

I. Refund Due to Product Quality Issues
If the office chair has quality problems such as incorrect sizing, significant defects, or mismatched goods, and the merchant refuses to address the issue, consumers can seek legal recourse. For example, the Cangshan District People's Court in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, once concluded a case where a consumer who had ordered a customized office desk and chair set found color inconsistencies and multiple damages. The merchant refused a refund or return on the grounds that the products were customized, but the court ultimately ruled to terminate the contract and supported the refund. Key Points: Consumers need to retain evidence such as product photos and communication records to prove the quality issues and the merchant's responsibility. If the merchant refuses on grounds such as 'customization' or 'used product,' consumers can cite Article 24 of the Consumer Protection Law to demand that the merchant fulfill obligations for return, replacement, or repair.

II. Refund Due to Personal Reasons (No Product Quality Issues)
If a refund is requested for personal reasons such as unsuitable sizing or color, consumers need to check the return policy of the e-commerce platform. Most platforms support a seven-day no-reason return policy, but the following conditions must be met:

  1. Return Validity Period: The return request must be made within 7 days from the day after receipt, with some platforms (such as JD.com and Tmall) possibly extending this to 15 days;
  2. Product Integrity Standards: Assembled chairs must be repackaged in their original packaging, and leather or fabric seats must avoid obvious signs of use (such as stains or wear);
  3. Shipping Cost Rules: For returns not due to quality issues, consumers usually bear the shipping costs, though some merchants may offer shipping insurance or subsidies.
    Exceptions: If the product page explicitly states 'no seven-day no-reason returns' (such as for customized items or opened hygiene products), consumers need to negotiate with the merchant for a resolution.

III. Refund Due to Merchant Fraud
If the merchant engages in fraudulent behavior such as forging inspection reports or making false claims, consumers can demand higher compensation. For example, the Dongfang Zhenxuan livestream once handled a case where the inspection report for 'Liu Liu Stool' products was found to be fake, offering a 'double refund without return' to affected buyers. Legal Basis: According to Article 55 of the Consumer Protection Law, if a merchant commits fraud, consumers can demand a 'refund plus triple compensation,' with a minimum compensation of 500 yuan. If the issue involves food safety, consumers can demand a 'refund plus tenfold compensation,' with a minimum compensation of 1000 yuan.

Summary: Before requesting a refund, clarify the reason and prioritize negotiation with the merchant. If negotiation fails, retain evidence and seek recourse through platform complaints, 12315 reports, or legal channels.
