Office Chair Refinishing Spray Painting
Admin October 11, 2026
The following steps and precautions should be followed for office chair refinishing and spray painting:

I. Preparation
- Seat Surface Treatment: If the fabric needs to be replaced, use a staple remover to take off the old fabric and clean up any remaining staples. Also, remove soft parts such as cushions and backrests to thoroughly clean surface stains, dust, or old paint.
- Frame Inspection: For wooden or metal frames, check the structural stability. If the chair legs are loose or the joints are cracked, use wood glue, metal corner braces, or professional reinforcement parts for repair. If the damage is severe (such as a broken frame), it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician to avoid safety hazards caused by self-operation.
II. Sanding Treatment
- Surface Cleaning: After repair, sand the frame surface with 240-grit sandpaper, especially the parts to be painted, to ensure the removal of burrs and old paint layers and make the surface smooth.
- Operation Specifications: When sanding, operate along the grain direction (for wooden frames) to avoid scratching the material. For metal frames, focus on treating rusty or uneven areas to ensure firm adhesion of the new paint.
III. Spray Painting Operation
- Spraying Method: Keep the spray gun 20-30 centimeters away from the surface and spray evenly in a 'Z' shape to avoid local paint accumulation.
- Layered Spraying: Multiple coats of spraying are required. After each coat, wait 10-20 minutes for drying before applying the next coat to prevent the paint layer from being too thick and cracking.
- Base Color Treatment: If the original chair is dark (such as green) and needs to be repainted with a light-colored paint, first apply a layer of white topcoat as a base color to ensure even color display.
- Rust Prevention Treatment: For metal frames, it is recommended to apply a thin layer of rust-preventive primer first to enhance corrosion resistance and extend the service life.
IV. Post-Treatment
- Ventilation and Drying: After refinishing, place the chair in a well-ventilated area to dry for more than 24 hours. Ensure that the paint smell has completely dissipated before use to avoid inhaling harmful gases.
- Special Material Treatment: If the chair involves complex structures (such as pneumatic rods or rotating bases) or precious materials (such as solid wood or genuine leather), it is recommended to consult a professional repair technician first to avoid further damage caused by improper operation.
Precautions: Wear a mask and gloves throughout the operation to avoid direct contact with the paint. If you are allergic to the paint ingredients, take protective measures in advance.
