Office Chair Reclining Wobble
The wobbling of an office chair when reclining can be troubleshot and resolved through the following methods:

1. Locking mechanism issues
- Confirm functionality: Not all chairs have a tilt-lock feature. First, check the product manual or observe if there are adjustment components under the seat.
- Handle/lever locking: For handle adjustment, sit firmly, pull the handle backward, and recline the backrest. Release it at the desired angle. You should hear a 'click' indicating successful locking. If there is slight wobbling after locking, check if the connecting screws between the seat bottom and base, and between the armrests and seat, are loose. Tighten them with a screwdriver.
- Knob adjustment system: The knob is usually located at the center of the seat bottom. Rotate it to a specific position or follow the 'pull out - adjust - press in' locking procedure. If it fails to lock or automatically springs back, check if the handle is fully returned to its original position. Operate it repeatedly to ensure smooth movement. Observe if the metal catch has any foreign objects stuck or is deformed.
- Push-pull button type: Pull the button outward to unlock the tilt. Adjust the angle and then press it inward to lock. If the button is stuck, clean the internal debris or replace the spring.
2. Loose chassis
Loose connecting screws between the chassis and the chair body can lead to reduced overall stability. Check the connection points between the chassis and the frame. Use tools to tighten any loose screws. If components such as nuts are stripped, replace them promptly with new parts.
3. Reclining adjustment device failure
Damage to the adjustment handle or button (e.g., the button fails to spring back, the handle does not rotate smoothly) can affect the reclining function. Try cleaning the internal debris or replacing the spring for repair. If it cannot be repaired, replace it with a new adjustment device.
4. Overall structural deformation of the chair
Observe if the frame of the backrest, base, etc., has obvious bending or twisting. If the deformation is severe, contact after-sales service for repair or replace the chair.
5. Issues with other components
- Loose adjustment rod screws: Use a Phillips screwdriver to rotate the plastic cover plate at the base counterclockwise. After exposing the metal fixing frame, use a wrench to tighten 6 - 8 fixing screws symmetrically at 90ยฐ intervals.
- Spring catch failure: Use needle-nose pliers to re-insert the slipped spring hook into the catch. If the spring is deformed, measure its length and purchase a replacement spring of the same specification online (diameter 3 - 5mm, price 5 - 15 yuan).
- Excessive clearance in the gas lift rod: Remove the dust cover at the bottom of the seat. Rotate the adjustment knob (black plastic part) of the gas lift rod counterclockwise. Test the rebound resistance in stages of 30ยฐ until the reclining is stable.
