Office Chair Reclining Tilt

Admin October 14, 2026

The reclining tilt issue of an office chair may be related to abnormalities in the reclining adjustment mechanism or component status, and can be troubleshot and resolved through the following methods:

1. Check the control lever status If the backrest cannot automatically return to its original position or gets locked after reclining, it may be because the control lever has been accidentally pushed into the fixing hole, blocking the reset function. In this case, you need to pull the control lever out again, let the backrest return to its position, and then push it back into the fixing hole. If the chair back cannot recline at all, check whether the operating lever on the side of the chair (usually a black pull lever) is in the pulled-out state (i.e., unlocked state). If the operating lever is unlocked but the chair still cannot recline, it may be due to internal mechanical jamming, and you can restore flexibility by gently rocking the chair back or repeatedly pulling the operating lever.

2. Adjust the reclining resistance The reclining resistance should match the user's body weight. If the user is heavy, the resistance needs to be increased (rotate the adjustment device clockwise) to prevent the chair from sinking due to insufficient support when reclining; if the user is light, the resistance needs to be decreased (rotate counterclockwise) to ensure that reclining does not require excessive force. The adjustment device is usually located at the bottom of the chair and is a knob or paddle structure, which should be operated according to the instructions in the manual.

3. Check the tightness of the screws Loose screws may cause the chair structure to be unstable, leading to reclining tilt. Check whether the screws at various connection points of the chair (such as the connection between the backrest and the seat cushion, and the connection between the five-star base and the seat cushion) are tightened. If any are found to be loose, use a tool (such as a screwdriver) to tighten them one by one to ensure structural stability.

4. Inspect the hydraulic rod A faulty hydraulic rod (such as oil leakage or aging of internal seals) may affect reclining stability, manifesting as sinking or shaking when reclining. If the problem is not resolved after checking other components, contact a professional to inspect the hydraulic rod. Non-professionals should never disassemble the hydraulic rod by themselves to avoid safety hazards.

Summary: First, check the control lever and the resistance adjustment device, then tighten the screws, and finally check for hydraulic rod faults. If the problem is complex or involves internal mechanical structures, it is recommended to contact after-sales service or a professional repair technician for handling.
