Office Chair Reclining Tilt

Admin October 14, 2026

The solutions for an office chair that reclines and tilts incorrectly need to be tailored to the specific type of problem. Here are some common causes and corresponding solutions:

1. Unable to automatically return to upright position or lock If the backrest cannot return to its original position or gets stuck after reclining, it is usually because the control lever has been accidentally pushed into the locking hole. The control lever is a core component for adjusting the reclining function. When it gets stuck in the locking hole, it hinders the elastic return mechanism of the backrest. In this case, you need to pull the control lever outward to restore the free movement of the backrest. After the backrest returns to its original position, push the control lever back into the locking hole according to your needs to lock the angle. Be careful with the force applied during the operation to avoid damaging the components.

2. Complete failure of the reclining function If the chair cannot recline, there may be an issue with the adjustment mechanism:

  • Adjustment lever/knob not activated: Check if the adjustment lever at the bottom or side of the seat is in the "locked" position. Some chairs require you to rotate or push/pull the adjustment lever to activate the reclining function.
  • Tilt lock function enabled: Some chairs are equipped with a tilt lock button. If it is accidentally activated, you need to find the button and turn off the lock.
  • Excessive tension setting: If the reclining tension adjustment knob (usually located under the seat) is set too tightly, it will limit the movement range of the backrest. You need to rotate the knob counterclockwise to reduce the tension.
  • Component jamming: Long-term use may cause dust accumulation or wear and tear on the internal mechanical structure. You need to clean the adjustment parts or contact a professional repair technician for handling.

3. The chair leans to one side as a whole If the chair shows a significant tilt when placed upright or upside down, you need to check the following reasons first:

  • Deformed casters: Check if the five casters are bent or broken, especially paying attention to the front casters that bear more weight. If damage is found, you need to purchase replacement parts that match the specifications of the original casters (such as diameter, material, braking function, etc.). When installing, ensure that the caster axles are fully inserted into the base slots.
  • Uneven ground: Move the chair to a flat surface for testing. If the tilt disappears, you need to adjust the ground or use chair foot pads to balance the height.
  • Loose base structure: Check if the connection between the five-star base and the gas lift is loose. If there is a gap, tighten the screws or replace the base.

Handling suggestions: First, conduct a self-check through simple operations (such as adjusting the control lever and checking the casters). If the problem involves internal mechanical or structural damage, it is recommended to contact after-sales service or a professional repair technician to avoid secondary damage caused by improper operation.
