Reclining Methods for Office Chairs
Admin October 12, 2026
The reclining method for an office chair mainly depends on whether it has a reclining function. It can be divided into two categories: those with a reclining function and those without. Here are the detailed operation methods:

Reclining Methods for Office Chairs with a Reclining Function
Operation Core: Most office chairs with a reclining function are controlled by a lever or knob located on the right (or left) side at the bottom of the seat.
Specific Operations:
- Lever Type: Find the independent control lever, pull it out horizontally to unlock, slowly lean back your body to a comfortable angle, and push the lever back to lock the position.
- Toggle/Press-down Type: Press down or pull back the control lever while leaning back your body to adjust the angle. Release or reset the lever to lock it.
- Knob Type: Rotate the knob to adjust the reclining resistance (loosen it if you want an easier recline). Some models require pulling a separate toggle to unlock.
Angle Recommendations: - Daily Office Work: It is recommended to adjust to about 110ยฐ of slight recline, which can disperse the pressure on the lumbar spine and relieve fatigue from prolonged sitting.
- Lunch Break Relaxation: An angle of 110ยฐ to 130ยฐ is ideal. Use a lumbar support to support the lumbar spine and a U-shaped pillow to support the neck, maintaining the natural curve of the spine.
- High-end Models: Some chairs can recline up to 135ยฐ or even 160ยฐ, approaching a lying-down position. However, ensure the stability of the chair.

Using Auxiliary Tools:
- Folding Stools: Lower the chair to its lowest height. Unfold two folding stools and place them side by side in front of the chair. Rest your legs on the stools to form a shallow sleeping position.
- Other Items: Use items such as air columns, egg-crate pads, cardboard boxes, or picnic mats spread on the ground, along with a small blanket. However, pay attention to the ground temperature and cleanliness.
Adjusting the Existing Structure: - If there is an adjustment handle under the seat of the chair, try pulling the handle to adjust the height and find a relatively comfortable sitting position (but true lying down cannot be achieved).
- Some chairs can provide short-term relaxation by shifting your body weight forward or backward and utilizing the slight elasticity of the backrest, but the effect is limited.
Precautions:
- Adjust the reclining angle slowly to avoid losing balance due to a sudden recline.
- When using auxiliary tools, ensure the ground is flat to prevent sliding or tipping over.
- For long-term lying-down rest, it is recommended to choose a professional recliner or folding bed to protect the health of the spine.
