Office Chair Reclining Lever

Admin October 19, 2026

The office chair reclining lever is a component used to control the recline and return of the chair's backrest. Its operation method and troubleshooting vary depending on the design.

Common Operation Methods

  1. Basic Lever Design In most office chairs, the recline function of the backrest is controlled by a lever located beneath the seat. When the user pulls the lever, it disengages from the pin hole in the backrest, allowing the backrest to recline freely. When returning to the upright position, the backrest automatically returns under the tension of the built-in spring, and the user simply needs to release the lever. If the backrest fails to return and locks after reclining, it may be because the lever was accidentally pushed below the pin hole during recline, causing the mechanical structure to jam. In this case, the lever needs to be pulled out again to allow the backrest to return under the spring's action, and then pushed back into the pin hole to restore functionality.

  2. Side Adjustment Lever Design Some office chairs have an adjustment lever located on the right side beneath the seat, featuring a more convenient pull-up design. After the user pulls up the adjustment lever, a slight lean back unlocks the recline mode, and releasing the lever automatically returns the backrest to the upright position. This design is typically suitable for scenarios requiring quick posture changes, with a more intuitive operation logic.

Resistance Adjustment Function in High-End Chairs

High-end office chairs may be equipped with a knob-type resistance adjustment device to control the ease of recline. Turning the knob clockwise increases the recline resistance, suitable for users who need a fixed sitting position or are heavier. Turning it counterclockwise decreases the resistance, making recline easier, suitable for lighter users or those who need to frequently adjust their sitting position. This design is achieved through mechanical or pneumatic structures, allowing users to adjust flexibly according to their personal needs.

Troubleshooting Points

If the recline function fails, first check whether the lever or adjustment lever is in the correct position (e.g., whether it has been pushed below the pin hole). Next, confirm whether the spring or pneumatic device is working properly (e.g., a broken spring or a leaking pneumatic rod can cause weak return). For chairs with a knob-type adjustment, check whether the knob is loose or jammed. If the problem cannot be resolved, it is recommended to contact after-sales service for repair to avoid further damage caused by self-disassembly.
