Office Chair Reclining Guide

Admin October 08, 2026

Recline your office chair according to the standard procedures to ensure safety and comfort. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Preparation Before Operation

  1. Environmental Safety: Choose an open area away from walls, furniture, and other obstacles to avoid damage or injury caused by collisions during the reclining process.
  2. Chair Condition Inspection: Ensure that the office chair stands steadily on all four legs without any loose, broken, or damaged components. If there are structural issues, repair or replace the chair before proceeding with the operation.

II. Locating the Adjustment Components

  1. Common Locations:
    • Under the Base: The adjustment lever of most office chairs is located at the base directly beneath the seat. You need to bend over after leaving the seat to observe it.
    • At the Backrest Connection: For some chairs, the adjustment button is located on the side of the seat near the backrest, which may be a round knob or a pull rod.
    • Under the Seat or on the Armrests: High-end models may have push-button or electronic adjustment keys set at the bottom of the seat or on the armrests.

III. Operating the Adjustment Components

  1. Lever/Button Type:
    • After sitting down or leaving the seat, pull up the adjustment lever (or press the button) with your foot or hand, and slowly lean back at the same time. The backrest will gradually tilt due to gravity or manual force.
    • Note: For some chairs, you need to pull the levers at the bottom of both the backrest and the seat simultaneously. Maintain balance during the operation to avoid losing control due to excessive force.
  2. Knob Type:
    • Rotate the knob clockwise or counterclockwise (some need to be pulled up to unlock first), adjust it to the desired angle, and then release it. The knob will automatically lock.
    • Key Point: The rotation force should be moderate to avoid damaging the components due to excessive twisting.

IV. Confirming Locking and Adjustment

  1. Locking Inspection: Gently push the backrest. If there is no obvious sliding or abnormal noise, it means the locking is successful.
  2. Posture Optimization: Adjust the tilt angle of the backrest according to your personal comfort (usually recommended between 110ยฐ and 135ยฐ) to avoid excessive pressure on the waist due to excessive reclining.

V. Safety Precautions

  1. Steady Movements: Avoid rapid shaking or sudden changes in posture during the reclining process to prevent dizziness or loss of balance.
  2. Foot Placement: Do not place your feet on the armrests or the desktop of the chair to avoid tipping over due to a shift in the center of gravity.
  3. Duration of Use: The reclined position is only suitable for short breaks. Prolonged lying down may cause muscle stiffness or poor blood circulation.
  4. Functional Limitations: Some office chairs are designed for the "leaning mode" rather than the "lying-flat mode". Forcing yourself to lie down may cause structural damage or safety hazards.

Tip: The adjustment mechanisms of office chairs from different brands may vary. It is recommended to read the instruction manual or consult the manufacturer before operation to ensure correct use.
