Solution for Office Chair Reclining Backwards

Admin October 11, 2026

The issue of an office chair reclining backwards can be resolved by adjusting the backrest lock, reinforcing the connection parts of the chassis, replacing faulty components, and conducting special inspections for lifting chairs. Details are as follows:

  • Adjusting the backrest lock: The backrest locking mechanism of most office chairs is located at the junction of the seat cushion and the backrest, with two common forms. For the wrench type, after sitting on the chair, the user should first press the wrench downwards, then press the backrest backwards to the appropriate gear position. After hearing a 'click' sound, release the hand to confirm that the backrest is fixed. For the knob type, slowly turn the knob clockwise to increase the pressure of the lock on the backrest, and stop when the backrest does not slide backwards automatically.

  • Reinforcing the connection parts of the chassis: The seat cushion, backrest, and chassis of an office chair are mostly connected with hexagon socket screws. The user can use a hexagon socket wrench of the corresponding size to tighten all loose screws, especially paying attention to the main load-bearing bolt in the middle of the chassis. When tightening, apply an appropriate amount of force to avoid slipping. If the five-claw base is slightly deformed, it can be gently tapped back into shape with a rubber hammer to restore its normal shape and stability.

  • Replacing faulty components: If the spring inside the lock is broken, the decorative panel at the bottom of the backrest needs to be removed, the old spring taken out, and a new one of the same model installed. If the lock catch on the chassis is worn and deformed, a catch of the matching size should be purchased for replacement. For office chairs with electric adjustment, check the fixing screws of the motor. A loose motor can also affect the stability of the backrest. When adjusting, be sure to unplug the power supply first to ensure safe operation.

  • Conducting special inspections for lifting chairs: For lifting chairs, check whether there are signs of oil leakage in the pneumatic rod, and test whether the lifting function is smooth, without any stuttering or automatic sliding. At the same time, check whether the connection between the chassis and the pneumatic rod is firm. If the connection is loose, tighten the relevant screws in a timely manner to ensure a stable connection.
