Office Chair Reclining Adjustment
Admin October 12, 2026
The method for adjusting an office chair to a reclining position depends on the type of chair and requires selecting the corresponding adjustment mechanism. Common operating steps are as follows:

I. Lever Adjustment System
- Locate the adjustment lever: Usually positioned on the right or left side beneath the seat, some chairs may require bending over or reaching sideways to access it.
- Unlock the reclining function: Gently lift or push the lever (some designs feature a button mechanismโpull outward to unlock, push inward to lock). For example, if pushing the button inward only adjusts the height, pulling it outward will unlock the reclining angle.
- Adjust the angle and lock it: Slowly lean back to a comfortable position, then operate the lever again (e.g., push the button back in) to lock the angle, preventing wobbling during use.
II. Knob Adjustment System
- Find the resistance adjustment knob: Located near the center of the lower seat, close to the support column, it may also include angle adjustment functionality (refer to the instruction manual for confirmation).
- Adjust the reclining resistance: Rotate clockwise to increase resistance (suitable for heavier individuals) or counterclockwise to decrease resistance (suitable for lighter individuals), ensuring that reclining does not require excessive force and allows for stable positioning.
- Separate angle adjustment (if available): Some chairs control the reclining range directly through another knob; rotate it to the desired angle as needed.
III. Pneumatic Adjustment System
- Identify the pneumatic lever: Typically integrated with the height adjustment lever, it may distinguish functions through different pushing directions (e.g., push forward for height adjustment, pull backward for reclining).
- Adjust the reclining angle: Gently pull the lever and slowly lean back; the chair back will automatically adapt to the angle under pneumatic pressure and lock in place when the lever is released.
IV. Step-by-Step Optimization of Reclining Comfort
- Backrest angle: Recline the backrest to between 105ยฐ and 135ยฐ (scientific research indicates this range minimizes spinal pressure). Unlock the reclining function using the handle beneath the seat, lean back slightly with your back to reach the target angle, then release the lock.
- Headrest adjustment: When sitting upright, move the headrest up or down so that the back of your head gently rests against it and your neck remains relaxed. For napping, raise it an additional 1โ2 cm to support the weight of your head.
- Lumbar support adjustment: Vertically align it with your height to ensure the lumbar support rests at the natural curve of your spine. Adjust the depth for support intensity, avoiding over-extension (which leaves the lower back unsupported) or excessive softness (which loses support effectiveness).
- Add a footrest: If supported by the chair, install a footrest to enhance leg support, reduce lower limb pressure when lying back, and further relax the body.
Precautions: Before adjusting, confirm that the chair supports reclining to avoid damage from forced operation. For initial adjustments, make small changes and gradually find the most suitable angle combination for yourself.
