Office Chair Recline Settings
Admin October 11, 2026
Adjusting an office chair for reclining requires customization based on the chair's specific features, with core steps involving adjustments to the backrest angle, headrest, lumbar support, and other components. Here's how to do it:

1. Backrest Angle Adjustment
- Operation Location: The backrest angle adjustment lever is typically located on the right or left side beneath the seat, though some high-end chairs may use buttons or knobs for control.
- Adjustment Method:
- Basic Operation: Pull the lever or rotate the knob while gently leaning back with your back until reaching the desired angle (e.g., 120ยฐโ135ยฐ), then release to lock. High-end ergonomic chairs support multi-position locking or infinite adjustment, such as a 4-position angle design (105ยฐ for creative work, 135ยฐ for prolonged sitting, etc.).
- Button Design: Some chairs require pulling the button outward to unlock, adjusting the angle, and then pushing it inward to lock; pushing inward locks the position, allowing only height adjustment.
- Angle Recommendations:
- For daily office work, 105ยฐโ110ยฐ is recommended; for prolonged sitting, 135ยฐ is preferable.
- Forๅไผ (noon breaks), reclining to 120ยฐโ135ยฐ is advised, with a 135ยฐ semi-reclined posture minimizing lumbar pressure.
2. Headrest Adjustment
- Basic Adjustment: Sit upright and look straight ahead, then slowly move the headrest up or down so that the back of your head gently rests against the soft middle part of the headrest. Ensure the middle of the headrest is parallel to the top edge of your ears, with no more than 4 cm between the back of your head and the headrest.
- Noon Break Optimization: Raise the headrest by an additional 1โ2 cm from the basic height to prevent the cervical spine from hanging in the air when the backrest is reclined. The headrest adjustment range on mainstream flagship chairs is typically 5โ13 cm.
3. Lumbar Support Adjustment
- Vertical Direction: Adjust the lumbar support height according to your height so that it rests at the natural curve of your lumbar spine (approximately at theๅน้ท (indentation) of your waist).
- Depth Direction: Adjust the support intensity to avoid being too high or too soft. After sitting, check the gap between your lower back and the backrest:
- If there is a gap, the lumbar support is too low or insufficient.
- If you feel a hard push, the lumbar support is too high or protruding.
- After adjustment, your waist should naturally fit without significantๆฌ็ฉบ (hanging in the air) orๅ่ฟซๆ (pressure).
4. Adjustment of Other Components
- Armrests: Adjust them so that your arms and elbows form a 90ยฐ angle, with your arms hanging naturally without a feeling of your shoulders drooping. Some armrests support lifting, flipping, or left-right rotation.
- Footrest:
- Gaming chairs usually come with a retractable footrest, while ordinary chairs can be equipped with one through additional installation.
- Pairing with an independent footrest (e.g., an adjustable-height model) can enhance comfort during reclining, forming a scientific ergonomic posture.
Tip: Before adjusting, confirm the chair's features (e.g., whether it supports multi-position locking, the headrest adjustment range, etc.). Some high-end chairs may come with instruction manuals or video tutorials, which can be referred to for operation to avoid misadjustment.
