Office Chair Recline Lock

Admin October 14, 2026

The recline lock function of office chairs is usually controlled by buttons or levers, with specific operations varying depending on the chair type and adjustment system design. Here are common adjustment mechanisms and operation points:

Some office chairs adopt a "pull-out to unlock - push-in to lock" design. These chairs are typically equipped with movable buttons or levers at the bottom of the backrest or on the side of the armrests. Pulling out the button or moving the lever outward unlocks the recline state, allowing users to freely adjust the tilt angle of the backrest. After adjusting to a comfortable position, pushing the button back into place or restoring the lever state locks the angle. This design is intuitive to operate, but it is necessary to pay attention to the rebound force of the button or lever to avoid damaging the components due to excessive force.

Another type of chair uses a "push-in to lock - pull-out to unlock" mechanism. Pushing the button or lever inward enters the locked state, at which point the backrest can only be adjusted in height (if the chair supports height adjustment) and cannot change its tilt angle. Pulling out the button or lever unlocks it, enabling users to freely adjust the recline angle. This design is more common in basic office chairs, and it is necessary to clearly distinguish the locking logic between "height adjustment" and "angle adjustment" to avoid misoperation.

High-end ergonomic chairs may be equipped with more complex adjustment systems, such as a four-position recline lock design. These chairs usually have multi-position adjustment knobs or dials at the bottom of the backrest. Users can select a fixed angle (such as 90ยฐ, 105ยฐ, 120ยฐ, 130ยฐ) by rotating or dialing, and after adjusting to the target position, the backrest will automatically lock, providing stable support. Some models also support infinite adjustment, which means achieving continuous angle changes by continuously pressing or sliding the control to meet personalized needs.

Points to note during operation:

  1. Ensure the chair is in a stable state before adjustment to avoid imbalance due to tilting;
  2. Follow the sequence of "unlock - adjust - lock" and avoid applying force in the locked state;
  3. If the chair has not been used for a long time or is difficult to adjust, check whether the button/lever is stuck or refer to the instruction manual to lubricate key components.

The specific operation method should be based on the instruction manual attached to the chair, as there may be differences among different brands and models.
