Office Chair Recline Jam
An office chair getting stuck in the recline position is often due to the recline adjustment lever or lock not being properly reset, the function being locked, mechanical parts getting stuck, or spring damage. It can be resolved through targeted adjustments or inspections.

I. Targeted Adjustments Based on Chair Type
Lever-Adjusted Chairs
There is usually a lever under the chair for adjusting the backrest. If the chair is stuck in the recline position, try pushing the lever inwards to see if the lock can be released. If the spring is damaged and cannot reset, the support frame needs to be replaced. To adjust the recline angle, press and hold the lever while using your back to apply pressure backward. Release the lever once the desired angle is reached.Handle-Adjusted Chairs
Sit on the chair and locate the adjustment handle at the rear under the seat. While pulling the handle, lean back slightly with your back, then release the handle to fix the angle. To return to an upright position, pull the handle again and apply a bit of force; the backrest will automatically spring back.Lever-Controlled System Chairs
Find the adjustment lever under the seat (usually on the right side). If it has been accidentally pushed in and is stuck, fully pull out the control lever. The backrest will usually automatically return to its position under the action of the built-in spring. If it does not reset, manually assist in pushing the backrest forward. Once it is fully upright, push the control lever into the correct locking pin hole to secure it.Gas-Lift Adjusted Chairs
Locate the adjustment handle under the chair. Pull it upwards (some models may require pressing a side button), while leaning forward with your body. The backrest will return to an upright position with the force of your body, and releasing the handle will fix the angle.Knob-Adjusted Chairs
Find the knob on the side or rear of the seat. Turning it counterclockwise usually unlocks or reduces the recline resistance. Then, lean forward with your body, and the backrest will easily reset.
II. Check and Disable the Rocking Function
If the chair can rock slightly back and forth, it may be because the rocking function lock has been pulled open. Locate the adjustment lever or lock under the chair (usually on the side) and push it back to lock the chair, stop the rocking, and fix the angle.
III. General Inspection and Maintenance Recommendations
If the above methods do not work, check if there are any cables or debris stuck near the chair's base or five-star wheel. While sitting upright, gently rotate the chair from side to side, which may release minor mechanical part jams. If the problem persists, it may be due to a damaged base spring or structural failure, and you should contact the merchant or manufacturer for repair. During the warranty period (usually three to five years), you can request phone-guided repair. If the issue cannot be resolved remotely due to technical or tool limitations and is within the warranty period, the cost of sending it back for repair is usually borne by the merchant.
