Office Chair Recline Angle Too Small
If the recline angle of your office chair is too small, you can adjust it using the following methods, depending on the type of chair and its adjustment mechanism:

Lever Adjustment System
Most office chairs use a lever to adjust the recline angle. Locate the adjustment lever beneath the seat, typically near the right or left side. Gently pull or push the lever to release the recline lock, disengaging the locked position. Then, lean back naturally, using your body weight to recline the chair back, while continuously adjusting the lever position to achieve a comfortable angle for the backrest. If the chair has a locking function, after adjusting to the desired angle, pull or push the lever again to lock the current position, ensuring stability during use.
Knob Adjustment System
Some chairs adjust the recline angle or resistance using a knob. The knob is usually located beneath the seat, near the center close to the support column. To adjust recline resistance: Turning the knob clockwise increases the resistance of the chair back when reclining, suitable for users who are heavier or prefer a more stable chair back; turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance, making reclining easier, suitable for users who are lighter or prefer a more flexible recline. To adjust recline angle: Some chairs are equipped with a separate angle adjustment knob. When operating, refer to the product manual and rotate it to the target angle as instructed.
Pneumatic Adjustment System
Chairs with pneumatic adjustment typically integrate the recline and height adjustment levers. When using, gently pull the lever and adjust the recline angle of the chair back by pushing in different directions. For example, pushing the lever forward may reduce the recline range, while pulling it backward increases the recline range. Maintain body balance during adjustment to avoid sudden force causing the chair to lose control.
Special Adjustment Methods for IKEA Office Chairs
- Toggle Lever Adjustment: Sit on the chair and lean slightly forward. Reach under the seat or towards the right edge to find a horizontal metal or plastic lever (some models may have a round knob). Hold the handle with one hand and pull it up (or out) while keeping it held, and use the other hand to support the edge of the desk. Lean back slightly with your back to allow the chair back to recline slowly to a comfortable angle, then release the handle to secure it. If the angle is not satisfactory, repeat the operation to readjust. After adjustment, rock your body back and forth a few times to ensure the chair back does not suddenly collapse or automatically rebound.
- Rotating Knob Adjustment for Damping: If the chair is equipped with a rotating knob (common on high-back chairs), turning it clockwise increases the support and rebound force of the backrest, making reclining more strenuous but more stable; turning it counterclockwise makes reclining easier with less resistance. It is recommended to start at the middle setting, sit on the chair to test it, and then fine-tune to find the most suitable resistance value for yourself.
