Office Chair Recline Angle Adjustment
Admin October 19, 2026
The methods for adjusting the recline angle of an office chair vary depending on the adjustment mechanism. Here are the common types and their operating steps:

I. Lever Adjustment System
- Locate the adjustment lever: It is usually located on the right or left side under the seat, and some chairs may integrate it under the armrest.
- Release the lock: If the chair has a backrest locking function, you need to release the locking device first. Gently pull up or push the lever to release the fixed state of the backrest.
- Adjust the angle: Slowly lean your body backward while continuously operating the lever to the desired angle. Some chairs require pushing the lever again to lock the position and ensure the stability of the backrest.
- Return to the upright position: When adjusting back to the upright state, repeat the operation of the lever and slightly lean your body forward to avoid sudden rebound.
II. Knob Adjustment System
- Locate the knob: It is mostly located near the central part of the lower seat close to the support column, and some designs may be hidden at the connection between the backrest and the seat cushion.
- Adjust the resistance:
- Increase the resistance: Rotate the knob clockwise to increase the difficulty of reclining, which is suitable for heavier individuals or scenarios where a fixed posture needs to be maintained.
- Reduce the resistance: Rotate the knob counterclockwise to decrease the difficulty of reclining, making it easier for lighter individuals to adjust the angle.
- Angle locking: Some chairs require a separate knob to control the angle range. Refer to the product manual for precise adjustment.
III. Pneumatic Adjustment System
- Operate the pneumatic lever: It is integrated with the height adjustment lever. Push it in different directions to control the recline.
- Smooth adjustment: Gently pull the lever and slowly lean your body backward, and the backrest will smoothly move to the desired angle. After releasing the lever, the backrest will be automatically locked.
- Fine-tuning tips: If you need to fine-tune the angle, you can pull the lever in stages and coordinate with your body movements to avoid excessive force that may cause loss of control.
IV. General Operating Suggestions
- Maintain a stable center of gravity: Keep your feet flat on the ground during the adjustment process to avoid the chair tipping over due to a shift in the center of gravity.
- Match the resistance:
- For heavier individuals: Increase the recline resistance to prevent the backrest from suddenly dropping and causing safety hazards.
- For lighter individuals: Reduce the resistance to ensure that you can easily complete the reclining action.
- Optimize for different scenarios: For a slightly reclined office scenario, it is recommended to have a slightly higher resistance to provide natural support; for a rest scenario, you can appropriately reduce the resistance to enhance comfort.
- Function expansion: Some chairs are equipped with a backrest flattening function, which is usually achieved through a pull rod under the right armrest. Check whether the product supports this function.
Precautions: Check the structural integrity of the chair before adjustment and avoid operating it on an unstable surface; if the adjustment mechanism is stuck or abnormal, contact after-sales service for repair and do not force the operation.
