Office Chair Recline Adjustment

Admin October 08, 2026

The methods for adjusting the recline of an office chair vary depending on the chair's type and design. Here are common adjustment mechanisms and their operating steps:

I. Lever Adjustment System

  1. Locate the Adjustment Lever: Typically positioned beneath the seat, near the right or left side. Some chairs may integrate it under the armrests or on the side.
  2. Release the Locking Function: If the chair is equipped with a recline lock, first pull up or push the lever (some designs are push-button types) to release the locked position.
  3. Adjust the Recline Angle: Slowly lean your body backward while controlling the speed of the backrest tilt with the lever until you reach a comfortable angle.
  4. Lock the Position: If you need to fix the angle, operate the lever again (such as pushing it back or pulling it up) to complete the locking, preventing angle changes during use.

II. Knob Adjustment System

  1. Locate the Knob: Mostly located at the lower center of the seat near the support column. Some high-end chairs may have a separate recline tension knob.
  2. Adjust the Recline Resistance:
    • Clockwise Rotation: Increases the backrest's recline resistance, suitable for heavier individuals or scenarios requiring stable support (such as focused office work).
    • Counterclockwise Rotation: Reduces resistance, making it easier for lighter individuals to recline comfortably, suitable for relaxation or short breaks.
  3. Angle Adjustment (if applicable): Some chairs control the maximum recline angle with a separate knob. Refer to the product manual for precise adjustments.

III. Pneumatic Adjustment System

  1. Operate the Pneumatic Lever: Usually integrated with the height adjustment lever, switch functions by pushing it forward or backward.
  2. Smoothly Adjust the Angle: Gently pull the lever and lean back; the backrest will automatically adapt to the tilt under pneumatic pressure, maintaining stability without manual locking.

IV. Other Adjustment Methods

  1. Pull-Up Adjustment: Find the pull-up adjuster beneath the seat, apply backward force simultaneously, and release it to fix the desired angle.
  2. Multi-Function Handle Combination:
    • Unlock the Backrest: Pull up the right handle to release the lock.
    • Adjust Tension: Rotate the cylindrical knob on the base (clockwise to increase rebound force, counterclockwise to decrease).
    • Free Recline and Lock: Pull out the control lever on the right side of the seat cushion to enter free mode, push it back to lock the angle.
    • Return to Upright Position: Pull the control lever outward and gently push the backrest; after it stands upright, push the lever back to complete the locking.

Precautions

  • Match Resistance to Body Weight: Heavier individuals should increase resistance to prevent sudden drops, while lighter individuals should decrease resistance to avoid difficulty reclining.
  • Choose Angles Based on Scenarios: For focused work, a recline of 5ยฐ-15ยฐ is recommended; for relaxed thinking, adjust to 20ยฐ-30ยฐ; for short breaks, over 30ยฐ is recommended to relieve back pressure.
  • Safe Operation: Maintain body balance during adjustments to prevent the chair's center of gravity from shifting too far backward and causing tipping; regularly check if the adjustment mechanisms are loose to ensure stability during use.
