Office Chair Recline Adjustment
Admin October 22, 2026
The method for adjusting the recline of an office chair depends on the type of chair. Here are the common adjustment mechanisms and steps:

I. Lever Adjustment System
- Locate the Adjustment Lever Typically found on the right or left side beneath the seat, some chairs may require you to lean forward to see the edge of the seat bottom.
- Unlock the Recline Function Gently pull up or push the lever to release the lock. Some chairs require you to pull a handle, lean back with force, and then release the handle to fix the angle; to return to an upright position, continue pulling the handle and apply slight force.
- Adjust the Recline Angle Slowly lean back while operating the lever to bring the backrest to a comfortable angle. If the chair has a locking function, operate the lever again to secure the position after adjustment.
- Precautions Maintain balance while adjusting to avoid sudden reclining that could cause the chair to tip over; if the backrest does not rebound, check the handle position (pull right to unlock, push left to lock) or whether the cable control switch is loose or broken.
II. Knob Adjustment System
- Locate the Knob Position Usually located near the center of the seat bottom close to theๆฏๆฑ (support column), some chairs have the knob hidden beneath a decorative cover on the chassis.
- Adjust the Recline Tension Turn the knob clockwise to increase resistance for heavier weights; turn it counterclockwise to decrease resistance for lighter weights or users who prefer softer support.
- Adjust the Recline Angle Some chairs have a separate angle adjustment knob; refer to the manual for operation. The cylindrical knob on the chassis can also adjust the rebound support force: turn clockwise to increase support and counterclockwise to decrease.
- Precautions Adjust while sitting on the chair and feel the resistance change with your body; if the knob is loose or ineffective, it may be due to worn internal parts, requiring after-sales service.
III. Pneumatic Adjustment System
- Operate the Pneumatic Lever The pneumatic lever is usually shared with the height adjustment lever; adjust the recline angle by pushing the lever forward or backward for a smooth experience.
- Adjust the Swing Amplitude Rotate the black cylinder at the front end of the chair's gas lift left or right to adjust the swing amplitude; turn clockwise to decrease and counterclockwise to increase.
- Precautions If the gas lift is out of gas (test by pinching the thin end of the gas lift; if it easily retracts, it needs replacement), replace it promptly to avoid safety hazards; avoid applying excessive force during adjustment to prevent damage to the gas lift.
IV. Recline Angle Selection Recommendations
- Focused Work: Choose a small angle (5ยฐ-10ยฐ), maintain an upright or forward-leaning posture to reduce lower back pressure.
- Relaxed Thinking: Choose a larger angle (15ยฐ-20ยฐ) for a comfortable lying experience.
- Short Breaks: Appropriate reclining (around 10ยฐ) can relax the back muscles and promote blood circulation, but the angle should not be too large to affect stability.
The recline design conforms to ergonomic principles, effectively reducing lower back pressure, but it is necessary to adjust the angle reasonably according to the usage scenario and regularly check whether the chair's functions are normal.
