Office Chair Recline Adjustment
Office chair recline adjustment is primarily achieved through a recline tension knob or a locking lever, with specific operation methods varying by design type.

Adjustment Methods and Operational Logic
Most mid-to-high-end office chairs feature recline adjustment functions concentrated on the underside of the backrest or the bottom of the seat. There are two common designs:
- Lever-type Locking: A lever is located beneath the backrest. When the user leans back, pressing down on the lever unlocks the recline function, and releasing it automatically fixes the backrest at the current angle. This design is suitable for scenarios requiring frequent posture adjustments, such as switching angles during short breaks or discussions.
- Infinite Adjustment Knob: Some gaming chairs or high-end models use a knob to control damping tightness. Turning the knob adjusts the resistance of the backrest when reclining: turning it clockwise increases resistance for a more stable backrest, while turning it counterclockwise decreases resistance for easier reclining. Users can adjust it to a comfortable state based on their weight or usage habits.
Key Component Locations and Functions
- Recline Tension Knob: Typically located at the bottom or rear of the seat, it is the core component for controlling recline resistance. Its adjustment logic is consistent with that of the infinite adjustment knob, but some models may integrate it on the side of the seat, requiring rotation to change spring tension.
- Recline Locking Lever: Some models are equipped with an independent lever for fixing the backrest at specific angles (such as 90ยฐ for office mode or 120ยฐ for rest mode). Once locked, the backrest will not move due to external force, making it suitable for scenarios requiring stable support.
Design Differences Among Different Types of Chairs
- Regular Office Chairs: The recline angle is generally limited to within 120ยฐ, with a focus on structural stability, making them suitable for long hours of office work.
- Gaming Chairs: Models with a bow-shaped backrest design can have a maximum recline angle of up to 135ยฐ. However, care should be taken to avoid sudden force at extreme angles (such as quickly sitting down or standing up), as this may cause deformation of the metal frame or loosening of connecting parts.
Usage Precautions
Before adjusting, ensure that the backrest is in the unlocked state to avoid damaging the mechanical structure by forcing it to recline. Users with lighter weights are advised to decrease resistance, while those with heavier weights should increase resistance to prevent rapid reclining. If the chair has not been used for a long time, lightly turn the knob or move the lever before adjusting to ensure smooth movement of the components.
