Office Chair Recline Adjustment
Adjusting the recline of an office chair requires selecting the appropriate method based on the specific model. The operation steps can be divided into four stages: unlocking, adjusting, locking, and restoring, while also paying attention to safety and material maintenance.

1. Unlocking the Recline Function
The adjustment handle for most office chairs is located on the right side of the seat (a few on the left), commonly in the form of levers, knobs, or pull rods. When operating, sit up straight and gently pull the handle until you hear a 'click' sound, indicating that the locked state has been released. If the chair is equipped with an independent recline lock (such as some high-end models), you need to first pull up the locking switch under the seat before proceeding with the subsequent steps. This step is a prerequisite for adjusting the recline angle; if not properly unlocked, the backrest will not move.
2. Adjusting the Recline Angle
Different adjustment systems correspond to different operation methods:
- Lever Adjustment System: Slowly lean back while continuously pulling the handle, and the backrest will gradually recline with the pressure. Release the handle when reaching a comfortable angle, and the system will automatically lock the position. This method is suitable for most basic office chairs. When operating, maintain a continuous motion to avoid sudden force causing the gas lift to lose control.
- Knob Adjustment System: Rotate the knob on the base (usually marked with arrow directions) to control the recline resistance. Rotating clockwise increases the resistance, suitable for scenarios requiring a fixed angle; rotating counterclockwise decreases the resistance, facilitating easy reclining. This method is common in adjustable-resistance office chairs, and the resistance value needs to be adjusted according to body weight and habits.
- Gas Lift Linkage Type: When reclining, gently push the seat towards the backrest to activate the cushioning function, reducing the impact. High-end models support synchronous adjustment of the armrests to ensure that the arm and backrest angles are consistent, enhancing comfort. This method is mostly found in ergonomic chairs, and it is important to apply even force to avoid damaging the gas lift.
3. Locking and Restoring
After adjusting to the desired angle, some chairs require pulling the handle again or pushing back the control lever to lock the position, preventing the backrest from accidentally bouncing back. When restoring to an upright position, pull the handle or knob again, and the backrest will slowly bounce back to the initial position with the assistance of the gas device, avoiding impact caused by rapid bouncing.
4. Precautions and Scientific Recommendations
- Safe Operation: Avoid sudden force when reclining to prevent the gas lift from losing control; regularly check if the adjustment components are loose, especially mechanical knobs, to prevent detachment.
- Material Maintenance: Long-term large-angle reclining of leather seats may accelerate material aging. It is recommended to keep the recline angle โค130ยฐ; for fabric chairs, it can be appropriately relaxed to 135ยฐ, but regular cleaning is required to prevent dust accumulation from affecting the adjustment function.
- Angle Selection: In office mode (60ยฐ-90ยฐ), maintain eye level with the top of the screen and keep the neck naturally drooping; in rest mode (90ยฐ-135ยฐ), it is recommended to use a footrest to distribute leg pressure and avoid blood flow obstruction.
