Office Chair Recline
Admin October 09, 2026
The adjustment methods and suitable angles for reclining an office chair are as follows:

Adjustment Methods
- Lever Adjustment System: Commonly found in mid-range and high-end office chairs. First, locate the adjustment lever, usually positioned beneath the seat near the right or left side. If the chair has a locking function, gently pull or push the lever to release the lock; then, adjust your body weight backward while adjusting the lever to achieve a comfortable reclining angle for the backrest; after reaching the desired angle, pull or push the lever again to lock the position.
- Knob Adjustment System: Often used in ergonomic chairs. Locate the knob, typically positioned near the center of the lower seat close to the support column. When adjusting the reclining tension, turning the knob clockwise usually increases the resistance of the backrest when reclining, while turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance. Some chairs have a separate knob for adjusting the reclining angle; refer to the product manual for specific operations.
- Pneumatic Adjustment System: Adopted by some modern office chairs. The pneumatic lever is often arranged together with the height adjustment lever, and the recline is adjusted by pushing in different directions. When using, gently pull the lever to adjust the backrest to a comfortable angle.
- Universal Method: Most office chairs can increase the reclining angle by gently pushing the backrest backward and decrease it by pulling the backrest forward.
Suitable Angle
A reclining angle of 100 to 130 degrees is generally suitable for an office chair. Within this range, the body can be relieved and relaxed without generating excessive pressure due to over-relaxation. However, as people's physical conditions and work environments vary, the reclining angle should be adjusted according to individual circumstances.
Precautions
- Avoid maintaining the same posture for extended periods: It is advisable to change your posture or get up and move around periodically to alleviate physical fatigue.
- Prevent excessive reclining: Excessive reclining can increase additional pressure and may lead to physical discomfort.
- Control the reclining angle: Do not adjust the reclining angle too much to avoid falling and causing injury.
- Special groups should take note: Pregnant women, older individuals, and those with relevant medical conditions should adjust the reclining angle appropriately based on their own physical conditions.
