Office Chair Recline
Admin October 09, 2026
The method for adjusting the recline of an office chair depends on the chair type, with common operations as follows:

I. Lever Adjustment System (Mainstream Design)
- Locate the Adjustment Lever: Typically positioned on the right or left side beneath the seat, with some chairs integrating it into the edge of the cushion (e.g., a right-side lever).
- Unlock Recline: Gently lift or push the lever to release the lock (if the chair has a locking function). Some models require pulling the lever outward before reclining freely.
- Adjust the Angle: Slowly lean back while operating the lever to bring the backrest to the desired angle. To fix the position, push the lever again to lock it (e.g., return the lever to its original position).
- Return to Upright Position: Some chairs require pulling the lever outward and pushing the backrest forward to lock it upright, preventing sudden rebound.
Example: A certain model is controlled by a lever on the right side of the cushion. Pulling it out allows the backrest to recline freely, and pushing it back locks the current angle.
II. Knob Adjustment System (Precise Resistance Control)
- Locate the Knob: Usually positioned at the center beneath the seat, near the gas lift or base, with some models featuring a cylindrical independent knob.
- Adjust Resistance: Turn the knob clockwise to increase recline resistance (suitable for heavier individuals) or counterclockwise to decrease it (suitable for lighter individuals), adjusting according to actual experience.
- Angle Limitation: Some high-end models are equipped with a separate knob to adjust the maximum recline angle, referring to the manual for setting the limit.
Example: The cylindrical knob on the base can adjust the spring force, enhancing support to prevent excessive recline when turned clockwise, and reducing resistance for easier tilting when turned counterclockwise.
III. Pneumatic Adjustment System (Smooth Experience)
- Operate the Lever: Integrated with the height adjustment lever, usually located on the right side of the seat, controlling recline by pushing in different directions.
- Dynamic Adjustment: Gently pull the lever to smoothly change the backrest angle without repeated locking, suitable for users who need frequent posture adjustments.
IV. Special Features of High-End Ergonomic Chairs
- Dynamic Human-Machine Following: The lumbar, armrests, and headrest automatically adapt to body movements. Initial use requires setting the initial position through the back adjustment module.
- Multi-Angle Presets: Such as 105ยฐ (focused work), 125ยฐ (relaxation), and 160ยฐ (nap), quickly switchable via a wired remote or buttons.
- Damping Force Adjustment: Adjust the recline speed through the base knob or wired remote to prevent sudden falls and enhance stability.
Precautions:
- Ensure the chair is placed on a stable surface when adjusting to avoid tipping due to shifted center of gravity.
- Choose the angle based on the usage scenario: a smaller angle (100ยฐ-110ยฐ) is recommended for prolonged focused work, while a larger angle (120ยฐ-160ยฐ) is suitable for relaxation or napping.
- Price Range: Basic reclinable office chairs cost approximately 130-394 yuan, while high-end dynamic adjustment models can reach 3270 yuan.
