Office Chair Rebound Test

Admin October 10, 2026

The office chair rebound test primarily evaluates the rebound performance of the seat and base, detecting material fatigue characteristics and service life by simulating long-term usage conditions.

Seat Rebound Test

  1. Inspection Scope
Applicable to office chairs with soft seats (such as those made of foam, memory foam, springs, etc.), including conference chairs, training chairs, and other indoor chairs.

  2. Inspection Items
The core indicators are the rebound height retention rate and permanent deformation. The former reflects the seat's ability to recover its thickness after load removal, while the latter measures the degree of irreversible deformation of the material. Together, they assess the fatigue characteristics and lifespan of the seat cushion.

  3. Inspection Method

    • Pre-treatment: Place the sample in a standard laboratory environment (e.g., temperature 23โ„ƒ ยฑ 2โ„ƒ, humidity 50% ยฑ 5%) for a specified period to eliminate environmental interference.
    • Initial Measurement: Apply an initial load (e.g., 50N) at a specified position on the seat and measure the initial height H1 using an electronic digital thickness gauge with an accuracy of โ‰ฅ0.5mm.
    • Loading Test: Apply a constant pressure (e.g., 220N) through a rigid loading disc (with a diameter conforming to standards) for 24 hours to simulate long-term usage.
    • Recovery Measurement: After removing the load, allow it to stand for 30 minutes and then measure the recovery height H2 again.
    • Calculation and Analysis: Rebound height retention rate = (H2/H1) ร— 100%, permanent deformation = H1 - H2.
  4. Inspection Instruments
Requires a seat rebound fatigue tester (with constant pressure loading and automatic timing), a rigid loading disc, an electronic digital thickness gauge, and a constant temperature and humidity environmental chamber.

  5. Recommended Standard
Refer to the national standard GB/T10357.3-2013, which specifies in detail the continuous static load test method for chairs and stools, providing a basis for evaluating the rebound and deformation performance of seats.

Base Rebound Test

  1. Test Principle
By simulating the rotational movement under a human sitting posture, the base is subjected to repeated loading-unloading cycles to detect its rebound performance (i.e., its ability to return to its initial position). Sensors are used to record data such as rotation angle, torque, and rebound displacement, analyzing material fatigue characteristics and structural stability.

  2. Test Method

    • Sample Preparation: Select a base sample without initial defects, clean it, and secure it to the tester to ensure stability.
    • Parameter Setting: Set the rotation angle (e.g., ยฑ180ยฐ), torque (e.g., 5-10Nยทm), and number of cycles (e.g., 50,000 times) according to standards to simulate moderate-intensity loads.
    • Test Execution: Start the instrument for automatic cycling and monitor in real-time the deviation value of the base returning to its initial position after each rotation (the smaller the deviation, the better the rebound performance).
    • Result Analysis: After testing, check for cracks, deformations, and other damages, and evaluate the lifespan based on data such as the rebound rate (rebound displacement/initial displacement) and torque changes (e.g., a rebound rate โ‰ฅ90% is considered qualified).
