Office Chair Rebound

Admin October 09, 2026

If an office chair leans back and doesn't rebound, you can resolve the issue by checking the handle and base, troubleshooting the cable control switch, and assessing the condition of the small gas cylinder.

First, check the handle and base. The rebound function of an office chair is closely related to the adjustment of the handle and base. The handle is usually located on the right side of the chair. Pulling it to the right unlocks the backrest, allowing it to lean back; pushing it to the left locks the backrest in its current position. On the base, there is a cylindrical knob that is crucial for adjusting the rebound support force. Rotating this knob clockwise increases the rebound support force, making it easier for the chair to rebound after leaning back; rotating it counterclockwise decreases the rebound support force, making it easier for the chair to lean back but with less rebound force. If the knob is improperly adjusted, it may cause the chair not to rebound, so appropriate adjustments should be made based on actual needs.

Second, troubleshoot the cable control switch. For office chairs with a reclining function, the cable control switch is an important component for controlling backrest adjustment. If the chair malfunctions during adjustment and fails to rebound normally, there may be an issue with the cable control switch. Check whether the switch can close automatically. If it cannot, the cable control may be loose, broken, or disengaged. In this case, adjustments can be made according to the specific situation, such as tightening the nut position of the cable control or replacing it with a new one to restore the chair's normal rebound function.

Finally, assess the condition of the small gas cylinder. The backrest adjustment of an office chair is also related to the condition of the small gas cylinder. The small gas cylinder is the power source for the chair's reclining and rebounding. If there is an issue with the gas cylinder, the chair may not rebound normally. To determine whether the gas cylinder has gas, simply pinch the thin end of the gas cylinder with your hand and press it. If the gas cylinder can easily retract, it means there is no gas inside, and it has lost its support and rebound capabilities. In this case, a new gas cylinder should be replaced to restore the chair's normal use.
