Office Chair Realignment

Admin October 09, 2026

The methods for realigning an office chair vary depending on its adjustment mechanism, as detailed below:

Pneumatic Rod Adjustment Type

First, sit on the chair and lean slightly forward to locate the pneumatic rod control lever beneath the chair. To adjust the backrest angle backward, pull the lever upward while gently leaning back. To realign the chair to its original position, push the lever downward while leaning forward. Operate slowly to avoid sudden rebound or tilting, which could cause injury or damage to the chair.

Knob Adjustment Type

For chairs with this type of adjustment, the knob is typically located on the side or beneath the chair. Rotate the knob counterclockwise to release the backrest lock, then adjust the backrest angle forward or backward as needed. Once adjusted, rotate the knob clockwise to secure the current angle and realign the chair.

Lever Adjustment Type

Some high-end office chairs are equipped with a lever adjustment mechanism, usually located on the side of the chair. Pulling the lever allows you to switch between different gears, each corresponding to a fixed backrest angle. Select the appropriate gear to realign the chair.

Other Adjustment Methods

  • Adjustment Buttons or Handles: Many office chairs have adjustment buttons or handles on the side or near the backrest. Pressing or pulling these devices changes the backrest angle; then, push the backrest forward to return it to the desired position.
  • Rotating Knob: Some office chairs adjust the backrest by rotating a knob on the backrest itself. As you turn the knob, the backrest angle changes; simultaneously, gently push the backrest to find a comfortable angle and realign the chair.
  • Pneumatic Rod Adjustment: Some office chairs use a pneumatic rod to adjust the backrest. Locate the pneumatic rod adjustment device at the bottom or side of the chair and follow the instructions to control the rod's rise and fall, thereby changing the backrest angle and returning it to normal.

If none of the above methods apply, different brands and models of office chairs may have varying adjustment methods. In this case, refer to the instruction manual for guidance. If the issue persists, contact the manufacturer's customer service or a professional repair technician.
