Office Chair R&D Testing

Admin October 13, 2026

Office chair R&D testing covers three core areas: testing standards, testing content, and testing equipment.

I. Testing Standards
Authoritative standards are represented by BIFMA (American National Standards Institute for Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers) and EN1335 (European Union standards). The BIFMA standard is higher than the national standard, and products that pass the test are marked with compliance labels, indicating higher safety and durability. Its testing items include backrest static stretching, endurance cycle testing, etc., simulating usage scenarios for heavy individuals. The EN1335 standard consists of three core parts, covering the entire process from design to finished product verification, and is a globally recognized quality benchmark. Its testing items are designed around real-world usage scenarios, providing systematic verification for finished chairs.

II. Testing Content

  1. BIFMA Testing: Static stretching tests are conducted on the backrest (withstanding high tension at a 70ยฐ incline) and endurance cycle testing; armrests must pass multiple tests; gas cylinders and chair legs are tested for pressure resistance and stability.
  2. EN1335 Testing:
    • Ergonomic Dimension Verification: Standard mannequins are used to simulate human sitting postures and weights, calibrating parameters such as seat cushion depth and seat height.
    • Comprehensive Stability Testing: Simulates tipping risks under different scenarios, such as forward and side tilting.
    • Strength and Durability Testing: Includes seat surface static pressure testing (repeated loading to verify load-bearing capacity) and backrest cycle durability testing (simulating millions of reclining motions).
  3. General Testing Parameters: Covers physical and mechanical properties (such as tipping tests), safety performance (clearance of rotating parts, flame retardancy), material environmental friendliness (release levels of formaldehyde, heavy metals, and volatile organic compounds), and ergonomic characteristics (adjustment function verification).

III. Testing Equipment

  1. Specialized Equipment: Such as office chair back-push performance testing machines, which simulate human back pressure through mechanical devices, precisely controlling pressure magnitude, frequency, and duration, and recording pressure data, deformation levels, and cycle counts to evaluate backrest performance.
  2. General Instruments:
    • Strength and Durability Testing: Universal material testing machines, multi-functional seat fatigue testing machines.
    • Stability Testing: Stability testing platforms and loading modules.
    • Impact Testing: Impact testing machines.
    • Hazardous Substance Detection: Chemical analysis instruments such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and spectrophotometers.
  3. Auxiliary Tools: Dimension measuring instruments, loading weights, environmental chambers, calibration blocks, gap gauges, etc.
