Office Chair Rack Plating

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair rack plating refers to the electroplating process of treating office chair-related components through rack plating to meet their appearance and performance requirements.

Rack plating is a common electroplating process. Specifically, workpieces are clamped onto racks, making it suitable for electroplating large parts. The number of products that can be plated in each batch is relatively small, and the coating thickness is usually above 10ฮผm. During the rack plating process, the workpiece is suspended on a rack made of a material with good electrical conductivity and then immersed in an electroplating solution of the metal to be plated, serving as the cathode. Anodes are placed at an appropriate distance on either side of the workpiece. When an electric current is applied, metal ions in the solution deposit on the surface of the part, forming a uniform coating.

The rack plating process has several characteristics. In terms of advantages, it is suitable for electroplating various types of parts, whether they are precision, high-requirement parts such as watch cases, watch straps, eyeglass frames, jewelry, and precision hardware components, or general-sized products. During electroplating, the current density per piece is relatively high and does not change over time, which helps ensure the uniformity of the coating. Additionally, the low tank voltage, slow temperature rise of the plating solution, and small carry-out amount all contribute to improving the quality and efficiency of electroplating.

In terms of disadvantages, the productivity of the rack plating process is relatively low because the number of products that can be plated in each batch is limited. Moreover, the maintenance requirements for equipment and auxiliary tools are relatively high, increasing production costs and maintenance difficulty.

For office chairs, key components such as five-star bases and chair bases often adopt the rack plating process. These components, after rack plating treatment, can obtain a uniform, aesthetically pleasing, and sufficiently thick coating, which not only enhances the product's appearance but also improves its durability, enabling office chairs to better meet user needs.
