Office chair racing competition is an entertaining event that has been held in multiple countries such as Germany, Switzerland, and Japan, with the aims of promoting urban vitality and relieving stress for white-collar workers.

In Japan, there are various forms of office chair racing competitions. Here is a detailed introduction:

  • Backward Office Chair Racing: Every year, Kyotango City in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, hosts a backward office chair racing competition. This traditional event started in 2010 and was initiated by Takeshi Tahara. The competition rules require three people to form a team and complete as many laps as possible within a two-hour time limit. To enhance the fun and spectacle of the event, participants usually wear various interesting costumes or engage in cosplay. This not only fills the competition venue with a joyful atmosphere but also attracts a large number of spectators. This form of competition not only tests the teamwork ability of the participants but also requires them to maintain balance and speed while riding the office chair backward, presenting a certain level of challenge.
  • "Chair - The 1st Competition": Ichinomiya City in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, has once held the "Chair - The 1st Competition". The competition venue is set on a 200-meter-circumference track in front of Ichinomiya Station. Participants are required to remain seated on the office chair at all times and push the chair forward by kicking the ground with their feet. The competition also takes place within a two-hour time limit, and the teams compete based on the number of laps completed. In one of the editions, a total of 25 teams participated, with each team consisting of 3 members. In the end, the champion team ran 122 laps, equivalent to 24.4 kilometers, within two hours. They received prizes such as 90 kilograms of rice, valued at approximately 90,000 yen (about 5,000 RMB). This form of competition not only tests the physical strength and endurance of the participants but also requires them to master certain skills to push the chair forward more efficiently.
