Office Chair Quality Standards
Office chair quality standards mainly cover two major systems: the EU EN1335 standard and the Chinese industry standard for 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs'. Details are as follows:

The EU EN1335 standard is a systematic safety regulation formulated by the EU for office chairs, consisting of three core parts:
- Ergonomic Dimensional Specifications: Clearly define the dimensional requirements for various components of office chairs, such as seat height, seat depth, and backrest height, ensuring that the chairs conform to the natural human form and reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting.
- Structural and Material Safety Requirements: Specify the structural stability and material safety of chairs, including the load-bearing capacity of chair legs, the strength of connecting parts, and flame retardancy, preventing risks of breakage or combustion during use.
- Mechanical Testing Methods: Verify quality through testing items that simulate real-world usage scenarios, including ergonomic dimensional verification (such as seat surface inclination and armrest height adjustment range), omnidirectional stability testing (such as forward, backward, and lateral stability), and strength and durability testing (such as repeated load-bearing of chair legs and fatigue testing of gas springs), ensuring stable performance of chairs over long-term use.
The Chinese industry standard for 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs' is a comprehensive regulation formulated by China for office chairs, implemented in 2020 and currently under revision for public consultation in 2026. Its content includes:
- Basic Requirements: Include environmental friendliness of raw materials (such as formaldehyde emission and heavy metal content), appearance quality (no flaws or burrs), and dimensional tolerances (such as a seat width error of โค3mm).
- Performance Requirements:
- Mechanical Properties: Such as static load testing of chair legs (withstanding 1100N pressure without deformation) and vertical static pressure testing of armrests (withstanding 700N pressure without damage).
- Safety: For chairs with gas springs, it is required that the gas springs pass 100,000 fatigue tests without leakage.
- Flame Retardancy: Compliance with specific burning rate standards.
- Hazardous Substances: Limitation of migratable elements (such as lead and cadmium) content.
- Inspection Rules: Clearly define the frequency and standards for factory inspection (such as appearance and dimensions) and type inspection (such as full-item testing), ensuring product consistency.
Both standards emphasize that office chairs should balance ergonomic design, structural safety, and durability. However, the EU standard focuses more on testing methods and simulation of usage scenarios, while the Chinese standard provides more detailed indicators for material environmental friendliness and specific performance values, offering consumers multi-dimensional quality assurance.
