Office Chair Quality Grade

Admin October 14, 2026

The quality grade of office chairs is mainly classified based on the grade of the gas rod (pneumatic rod). According to international standards, there are four grades, with a higher number indicating greater safety. At the same time, quality needs to be evaluated comprehensively across nine dimensions.

I. Classification of Gas Rod Grades

  1. Grade 1 Gas Rod: It has the lowest safety level. As it cannot meet basic safety requirements, it has largely withdrawn from the mainstream market. Such products should be avoided when purchasing.
  2. Grade 2 Gas Rod: It is an entry-level product, with a length of 200 - 250mm and a load-bearing capacity of 80 - 100kg. It is suitable for users under 170cm in height and with a relatively light weight, meeting basic office needs. However, there may be safety hazards with long-term use.
  3. Grade 3 Gas Rod: It is the mainstream choice in the market, with a length of 270 - 320mm and a load-bearing capacity of 100 - 150kg. Products certified by SGS/TUV and others can have an ultimate load-bearing capacity of up to 200kg. It offers the best balance between safety and cost, and is suitable for users over 170cm in height, covering the vast majority of office scenarios.
  4. Grade 4 Gas Rod: It is a high-end product, featuring thicker tube walls and strict manufacturing processes. The probability of explosion is much lower than that of Grade 3 rods, and it is known as the "explosion-proof gas rod". It is mainly used in high-end office chairs, gaming chairs, or scenarios with extremely high requirements for load-bearing and safety, such as for users who are overweight or have special occupational needs.

II. Comprehensive Quality Evaluation Dimensions

  1. Standard Compliance: It needs to pass national standards (such as QB/T 2280 - 2016 Type I). This standard requires products to pass 100,000 durability tests to ensure long-term use stability.
  2. Environmental Requirements: Materials need to comply with environmental standards to avoid the release of harmful substances such as formaldehyde, safeguarding user health.
  3. Functional Requirements: Select functions according to the usage scenario, such as adjustable headrests, lumbar supports, and armrests, to enhance comfort.
  4. Cost-effectiveness: Balance performance and price within the budget to avoid over-pursuing high-end or low-quality products.
  5. Transport Convenience: The design should consider the ease of disassembly and assembly to reduce the risk of damage during transportation.
  6. Special Materials: Factors such as the breathability of mesh fabric and the wear resistance of leather affect the user experience and lifespan.
  7. Appearance Design: It should be in harmony with the office environment to enhance the overall aesthetics.
  8. Durability: Through long-term use tests, ensure that key components (such as gas rods and casters) are not easily damaged.
  9. Applicable Scenarios: Select targeted designs according to different scenarios such as office work, meetings, and gaming.

Summary: When purchasing an office chair, the grade of the gas rod is the core safety indicator, and Grade 3 gas rods are the most cost-effective choice. At the same time, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on nine dimensions such as standard compliance and functional requirements to ensure that the product is safe, durable, and suitable for the usage scenario.
