Office Chair QB/T Translation

Admin October 09, 2026

QB/T 2280-2016 is the light industry standard for 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs', specifying the classification, requirements, and test methods for office chairs. It serves as an authoritative basis for assessing quality, safety, and durability.

Scope of Application and Core Importance

QB/T 2280-2016 applies to chairs used for indoor work, with similar chairs in other settings able to refer to it. As a core standard for the production, quality inspection, bidding, and foreign trade of office chairs in China, it defines the full-process specifications from design to use. It is a mandatory acceptance criterion for brand procurement, engineering้…ๅฅ— (engineering้…ๅฅ— can be translated as 'engineering้…ๅฅ— solutions' or more naturally as 'project้…ๅฅ—' in this context, but for simplicity and clarity, I'll use 'project solutions'), and e-commerce entry, ensuring that office chairs circulating in the market meet basic quality requirements.

Four Core Sections of the Testing System

  1. Basic Inspection
Covers the external dimensions, symmetry, stability, and appearance workmanship of the chair. Through rigorous verification, flaws such as burrs, coating peeling, and misaligned assembly are eliminated, ensuring that the product's appearance meets industrial design standards and avoiding the impact of structural defects on the user experience.

  2. Physical and Chemical Environmental Testing
Focuses on material safety and environmental friendliness:

    • Fabric Performance: Tests color fastness (to acid and alkaline sweat, friction, etc.), abrasion resistance, pilling, and pH value to ensure long-term use without fading or release of harmful substances.
    • Metal Components: Evaluates the adhesion of the coating to prevent rusting or peeling.
    • Foam Materials: Tests compression deformation and the 40% indentation hardness loss value to ensure the support and durability of the seat cushion.
    • Harmful Substances: Limits formaldehyde emissions and TVOC content to suit indoor office environments and protect user health.
  3. Mechanical Durability Testing
Simulates real-world usage scenarios, covering core items such as seat impact, combined seat and back static pressure, and back-and-forth fatigue testing to screen for potential issues like frame deformation and loose connections. For lifting chairs, additional tests are conducted on the air rod's sealing, high and low-temperature tolerance, and cyclic durability to prevent explosion or air leakage risks.

  4. Safety Performance Testing
Includes tests for the static load-bearing capacity of the five-star base, the rotational lifespan of the pedestal, the abrasion resistance of the casters, and the stability of the entire chair during a drop test to ensure structural stability. It also specifies flame retardancy requirements to reduce fire risks.

Technical Differences Between Old and New Versions

After QB/T 2280โ€”XXXX replaced the 2016 version, the main changes include:

  • Simplified Terminology: Definitions such as 'chair back eccentricity' have been removed to optimize standard expression.
  • Upgraded Material Requirements: New indicators such as foam plastic ash content and textile fabric abrasion resistance have been added to strengthen environmental protection and durability.
  • Adjusted Test Conditions: Testing parameters for stability and drop tests have been modified to better align with actual usage intensity.
  • Refined Safety Specifications: Harmful substance requirements have been consolidated, and basic safety clauses have been clarified to enhance risk prevention and control capabilities.
