Office Chair QB/T 2280-2016

Admin October 09, 2026

QB/T 2280-2016 is a light industry standard of the People's Republic of China, officially titled 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs'. It applies to chairs used for indoor work, with similar chairs in other settings able to refer to this standard for guidance.

This standard specifies quality and safety requirements for office chairs from multiple perspectives, as detailed below:

1. Dimensional and Shape Requirements Key dimensions of office chairs, such as seat height, seat depth, and armrest height, must comply with Table 1 of the standard, ensuring ergonomic design and user comfort. If users have special requirements, dimensions can be separately agreed upon through contracts between suppliers and demanders. Shape and positional deviations must meet Table 2 requirements, including backrest tilt angle and seat surface levelness, to prevent inconvenience or safety hazards caused by structural deviations.

2. Appearance and Material Performance For appearance, the standard sets clear requirements for the surface quality of components like the seat, backrest, and armrests, including no cracks, no burrs, and uniform coating. Material performance requirements cover aspects such as the density of soft polyurethane foam, wood moisture content, and formaldehyde emission from artificial boards, as specified in Table 3. Specifically, formaldehyde emission must not exceed 0.120 mg/mยฒh, and TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) emission must not exceed 0.5 mg/mยฒh to ensure indoor air quality.

3. Mechanical and Safety Performance Mechanical performance is a core indicator and must comply with Table 4 requirements, including stability tests (e.g., forward and lateral tilt of the seat), seat impact tests, and backrest static load tests, ensuring the chair remains stable and undamaged during normal use or accidental force. For office chairs with gas springs, safety requirements are stricter: an isolation measure, such as a steel plate or chassis with a thickness of no less than 2 mm, must be installed between the seat bottom and the gas spring to prevent metal parts from flying out in case of gas spring explosion.

4. Testing Items and Inspection Rules The standard specifies detailed testing methods covering basic items like dimensional measurement, lifting stroke, backrest eccentricity, and shape symmetry, as well as durability tests such as coating adhesion on wooden parts and corrosion resistance of metal parts. Inspection rules are divided into factory inspection and type inspection to ensure consistent product quality during mass production.

The implementation of this standard helps regulate the office chair market, improve product quality, and protect consumer health and safety.
