Office Chair Purchase Criteria

Admin October 22, 2026

The criteria for purchasing an office chair mainly include support, adjustability, material and durability, comfort and safety, and brand and after-sales service.

Support: The support provided by an office chair is crucial, especially for the lumbar and cervical regions. A good office chair should conform to the body's curves, with sufficient support at the waist. The lumbar support should be adjustable, and the backrest should fit closely, making it more suitable for people who work long hours. An excellent lumbar support should have dynamic adaptive capabilities, such as floating wing lumbar support technology, which can automatically adjust the angle and force when sitting upright or reclining, firmly supporting the lumbar spine. The headrest should support multi-directional adjustment, fitting the natural curve of the cervical spine to avoid neck suspension and reduce cervical pressure.

Adjustability: Details such as seat height, armrest angle, and reclining force affect the sitting experience, and the adjustment range should be reasonable. Armrest elevation and rotation are basic operations to ensure natural relaxation of the elbows; the backrest reclining angle should preferably be lockable in multiple positions to meet different scenario needs. A good lumbar support should be adjustable up and down (with a travel of more than 5 cm), and preferably also adjustable forward and backward (with a travel of more than 3 cm); a good armrest should be adjustable in height (with at least 6 positions), and preferably also adjustable forward, backward, and sideways. 4D armrests (adjustable up and down, forward and backward, sideways, and rotation) are standard.

Material and Durability: Office chairs are used frequently every day, and the seat cushion, mesh fabric, and hardware structure undergo long-term wear and tear. It is advisable to choose breathable mesh fabric, a stable base, and a durable frame to avoid problems such as sagging and abnormal noises in a short period. Breathable mesh fabric keeps the body dry, while a stable base and durable frame ensure the long-term performance of the office chair.

Comfort and Safety: The quality of the gas lift, the stability of the base, and the smoothness of the casters all relate to the daily experience. For the gas lift, look for certification marks such as SGS certification and BIFMA standards to ensure basic safety; the five-star base should ensure a stable chassis, remaining safe even when reclining at a large angle. The front edge of the seat cushion should have a waterfall-like curve, with the front edge curving downward to leave space between it and the thighs, avoiding pressure on the blood vessels; the depth of the seat cushion should be appropriate. After sitting, the back should rest against the backrest, with the front edge of the seat cushion leaving a gap of 2-3 fingers' width from the back of the knee.

Brand and After-sales Service: Mature brands usually have more comprehensive design, production, and after-sales service. Problems are easier to resolve when they arise. Choosing a well-known brand can ensure the quality of the office chair and the guarantee of after-sales service.
