Office Chair PU and Mesh Fabric

Admin October 10, 2026

PU and mesh fabrics are two common types of materials for office chairs, each with distinct characteristics and suitable scenarios.

PU material is predominantly used in leather-like office chairs, commonly found in executive and managerial chairs. Its core ingredient is polyurethane (PU), which is crafted to mimic the texture and feel of natural leather. It comes in two categories: PU leather and genuine leather. PU leather offers advantages such as low cost, easy cleaning, and strong wear resistance, making it suitable for businesses or individuals with limited budgets but seeking a quality feel. Genuine leather, on the other hand, is renowned for its natural breathability, soft touch, and durability, though it comes at a higher price and requires regular maintenance. Office chairs made of PU material are typically filled with high-density foam and paired with metal (such as aluminum alloy) frames and five-star bases, ensuring a stable structure suitable for prolonged sitting or scenarios requiring a professional image, such as managerial offices or conference rooms.

Mesh fabric stands out primarily for its breathability, commonly used in small office chairs or summer-specific chairs. It features a hollow structure formed through weaving, providing significantly better air circulation than solid materials and effectively reducing the stuffy feeling during long periods of sitting. There are various types of mesh fabrics:

  • High-quality mesh: A basic option that balances breathability and durability, suitable for daily office use;
  • Technological mesh (such as NanoFlex4.0): Made from highly elastic fibers, offering strong support and quick rebound, ideal for scenarios requiring frequent posture adjustments;
  • Flocked mesh (such as Italian imported flocked mesh, dragon-pattern mesh): Covered with fine fuzz on the surface, providing a soft touch while retaining breathability, suitable for users seeking comfort;
  • DuPont Bounce technological mesh: Made from high-strength polyester fibers, it boasts strong tear resistance, suitable for high-intensity usage environments.
    Mesh chairs are usually paired with lightweight metal or engineered plastic frames, with five-star bases being common. They are relatively light in weight and easy to move, making them suitable for open office areas or summer use.

Material selection should be based on needs: If durability, texture, or prolonged use are priorities, PU material is more suitable; if breathability, lightness, or summer comfort are key considerations, mesh fabric is the preferred choice. Additionally, the stability (such as metal frames, thickened bases) and safety (such as explosion-proof gas rods) of office chairs should also be carefully considered to ensure a good user experience and health.
