Office Chair Protein Leather
Protein leather is a synthetic leather made by improving technology based on polyurethane (PU) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is essentially a composite-structured synthetic leather, and some products simulate the feel of genuine leather by adding soy protein extract.

Core Characteristics and Advantages
- Texture Close to Genuine Leather: Protein leather adopts a composite structure with 30% elastic fibers in the base fabric. Its tactile rebound rate reaches 82% (at 25ยฐC), close to the 85% of calfskin, and it can maintain its shape after being bent 100,000 times.
- Outstanding Durability: It can withstand 20,000 rubs without exposing the base in the Martindale abrasion test, showing significantly better scratch resistance than ordinary PU leather. After high-temperature exposure tests for automotive interiors, its deformation rate is only 1.2% (compared to 3.5% for PU leather), making it suitable for high-temperature environments in southern regions.
- Low Long-Term Cost: In office scenarios with daily use exceeding 8 hours, the 5-year usage cost of protein leather is 40% lower than that of PU leather (due to lower replacement frequency). However, its service life is still shorter than that of top-grade genuine leather, and aging cracks may appear after long-term use.
Recommended Application Scenarios
- Office Chairs: In high-intensity usage scenarios, the abrasion resistance, deformation resistance, and cost advantages of protein leather make it the preferred choice.
- Automotive Interiors: It is recommended for use in southern high-temperature regions, as its low deformation rate can reduce seat deformation caused by sun exposure.
Care Precautions
Follow the "three no's principle" to extend its service life:
- No Alkaline Detergents (pH > 8): Alkaline substances can damage the polyurethane coating structure, causing surface hardening or cracking.
- No Sun Exposure: Ultraviolet rays accelerate the degradation of polyurethane. It is advisable to avoid direct sunlight and use a sunshade when storing.
- No Ironing: Temperatures exceeding 60ยฐC can cause the coating to harden. If wrinkles need to be removed, gently wipe with a damp cloth and let it air dry.
Technical Principle
Protein leather uses ultra-fine non-woven fabric or knitted fabric as the base fabric, covered with a polyurethane (PU) coating. Some products further simulate the fiber structure of genuine leather and enhance tactile authenticity by compounding a coating containing soy protein extract on the base fabric through bioengineering technology. The elastic fiber content and coating process are key to its texture and durability.
