Office Chair Prone to Breaking

Admin October 17, 2026

The tendency of office chairs to break easily can be attributed to two main factors: poor quality and improper use.

Poor Quality

Some office chairs are of substandard quality and have a shorter lifespan, which is a significant factor contributing to their susceptibility to breakage. For instance, during the manufacturing process of certain office chairs, inferior materials may be used. Some metal components may lack sufficient strength, or plastic parts may have insufficient toughness, making it difficult for them to withstand the corresponding pressure and friction during normal use, and thus prone to issues such as leg breakage.

For office swivel chairs, whether a broken leg is a quality issue cannot be generalized. If an office swivel chair breaks soon after purchase and under normal use conditions, it is highly likely a quality problem. This is because new chairs should meet relevant standards in terms of materials and workmanship and be able to withstand normal usage loads. However, if an office swivel chair has been in use for a long time, leg breakage may be due to normal wear and tear. As the usage time increases, materials gradually age and wear out, leading to a decrease in their strength and toughness, and thus making them more prone to breakage.

Improper Use

Employees' incorrect usage methods can also damage office chairs, leading to their susceptibility to breakage. For example, some employees may carry the chair while moving, which causes the various components of the office chair to bear uneven forces, especially the legs, making them prone to breakage due to excessive stress. Additionally, sitting on the backrest of the chair is also an improper usage method. The backrest is primarily designed to provide back support, not to bear the weight of the human body. When a person sits on the backrest, it increases the stress at the connection between the backrest and the legs. Over time, these areas are prone to damage, and may even lead to leg breakage.
