Current Status of Office Chair Production

Admin October 12, 2026

China is one of the world's major production bases for office chairs, with the industry experiencing rapid development and forming industrial clusters, achieving significant progress in production volume, capacity, supply chains, and technology.

In terms of production volume and capacity, China's office chair industry has experienced fluctuating growth. In 2016, production volume was 132 million units, increasing to 154 million units in 2019, and further growing to 168 million units in 2020 despite adverse conditions. In 2022, affected by a decline in overseas orders, domestic production dropped to 147 million units, but it quickly rebounded to 1,768.38 million units in 2024, with a production capacity of 205 million units. It is projected that production volume will further increase to approximately 172 million units in 2025, with capacity rising to 207 million units. This trend indicates that China's office chair industry maintains strong growth momentum after experiencing short-term fluctuations.

In terms of the supply chain, China's office chair industry has established a three-tier structure of 'upstream material innovationโ€”midstream intelligent productionโ€”downstream scenario integration.' In the upstream sector, the localization rate of core components such as mesh fabric, polymer materials, and gas cylinders has significantly increased, reducing reliance on imported materials and enhancing supply chain stability. In the midstream manufacturing segment, industrial clusters represented by Anji in Zhejiang Province utilize 'industrial internet platforms' to achieve order allocation and capacity collaboration. Some enterprises have significantly shortened the delivery cycles for customized products through digital transformation, improving production efficiency and flexibility. In the downstream channel aspect, the proportion of online e-commerce continues to rise, with new models such as live-stream e-commerce and content-driven marketing driving improvements in user conversion rates. Offline experience stores reinforce brand awareness through scenario-based displays, forming an integrated online-offline sales model.

Technologically, China's office chair industry is advancing towards intelligence and ergonomics. Ergonomic design has extended from lumbar and back support to the neck, shoulders, and legs, forming a dynamic support system. Some intelligent office chairs use pressure sensors to monitor sitting posture in real-time, automatically adjusting the curvature of the backrest and the height of the armrests through AI algorithms to provide a more personalized and comfortable experience. Intelligent technology endows office chairs with new interactive dimensions. For example, voice-controlled office chairs can integrate with intelligent office systems to adjust height and switch between meeting modes. Some products incorporate biometric technology, using heart rate monitoring to assess user stress levels and adjusting ambient lighting and music for emotional regulation, enhancing the functionality and user experience of office chairs.
