Production of Office Chairs

Admin October 19, 2026

The production process of office chairs involves multiple steps, as detailed below:

Base and Seat Frame Fabrication: This is the foundational step in office chair production. Workers use hydraulic-powered machines to bend 14-gauge steel tubes into shape, creating the frame for the bottom cushion. They then connect the ends and weld steel rods in the middle, which will support the mechanism for adjusting the seat position. S-shaped steel springs are hung from the front to the back of the seat frame; these wave springs ultimately form an elastic mesh within the seat, providing elastic support. Afterward, crossbars are placed horizontally and clamped onto the springs to add extra stability and support.

Backrest Frame Construction: The backrest frame of the chair is constructed, including the spine, armrest attachments, and other components. During construction, burrs and other rough areas on the steel are ground down to ensure the frame is flat and smooth, providing a good foundation for subsequent component installation and leather wrapping.

Leather Processing and Cutting: The leather is smoothed out and evenly placed on the cutting table. Patterns are cut according to cardboard templates, avoiding natural flaws in the leather. Careful cutting yields all the leather needed to make one chair. To minimize waste and ensure color and texture consistency, only one piece of leather can be used in the production process, using parts from the same piece of leather to give the chair a consistent appearance and texture.

Foam Pad Cutting: The foam pad for the chair's backrest is cut. The foam in the chair has different densities; soft foam is used for cushioning to provide a comfortable sitting experience, while hard foam is used for shaping and stability, ensuring the chair maintains its shape.

Leather and Foam Stitching: The leather is divided according to size and stitched together with the foam. When stitching the backrest of the chair, the filling is sewn onto the pattern pieces, and then the contoured shell is sewn onto the sides. After stitching is complete, a particleboard is added outside the frame, the foam is wrapped around the particleboard, and finally, the leather is used to cover it.

Component Assembly: The previously welded frame is combined with particleboard and foam, and the seat is wrapped in leather. After assembly, plastic cover plates are screwed on underneath. The base, support rods, and support disk are attached, and a hydraulic rod for the lifting valve seat is installed, which not only controls the chair's height adjustment but also allows for 360-degree rotation. Finally, an aluminum base and casters are installed, along with the headrest and armrest components, completing the assembly of the office chair.
