Office Chair Production Process

Admin October 12, 2026

The production process of office chairs encompasses six core stages: design, material preparation, component processing, assembly and debugging, quality inspection, and packaging and warehousing. The specific process is as follows:

1. Design Phase
This phase involves combining market research, user feedback, and industry trends to define the chair's functional positioning (such as ergonomic support and adjustability), aesthetic style (modern minimalist or traditional business), and material selection. The design team, consisting of industrial designers, structural engineers, and material experts, uses computer-aided design (CAD) modeling and 3D-printed prototypes to repeatedly test the comfort (such as cushion pressure distribution), stability (center of gravity balance), and durability (fatigue testing) of the samples, ensuring the design meets ergonomic and safety standards.

2. Material Selection and Preparation

  • Metal Components: Chair legs and frames are made of high-strength steel or aluminum alloy, which undergo stamping, welding reinforcement, and anti-rust spraying to ensure structural strength and corrosion resistance.
  • Plastic Components: Chair backs and armrests are produced through injection molding, requiring control of mold temperature and injection pressure to avoid defects.
  • Fabrics: Leather must be wear-resistant and tear-resistant; mesh fabric must be breathable and moderately elastic, both requiring colorfastness and tensile testing.
  • Filling Materials: High-density foam or memory foam is cut to specifications, with rebound rate and compression set rate tested to balance support and comfort.

3. Component Processing

  • Woodworking Process: This includes material requisition, cutting (precise cutting of wood or composite boards), layer positioning (ensuring structural symmetry), and sanding and screw installation (removing burrs and securing connectors), with a key control point being dimensional tolerance (within ยฑ0.5mm).
  • Foam Application Process: Foam is bonded to the chair board using eco-friendly adhesive, requiring checks on foam roundness (error โ‰ค1mm), thickness uniformity, and chair board surface smoothness. After bonding, it must be stored for 24 hours to cure the adhesive.
  • Upholstery Process: Leather is trimmed, stitched (using double-needle stitching), pressed (to enhance seam strength), and edged (covering the chair back edges), ensuring fabric symmetry and uniform stitch spacing (โ‰ฅ12 stitches per 10cm).

4. Assembly and Debugging
Based on the component installation sequence (such as assembling the chassis and gas lift first, then connecting the five-star base and casters), the focus is on adjusting the tolerances of moving parts: the fit between the chassis and gas lift must be โ‰ค0.2mm, and the rotational resistance of the five-star base and casters must be uniform. After assembly, functional tests are conducted, including lifting (50,000 cycles), reclining (100,000 durability cycles), mobility (noise โ‰ค55 decibels), and load-bearing (static load โ‰ฅ150kg), ensuring no jamming or abnormal noises.

5. Quality Inspection

  • Incoming Inspection: Verifies raw material batch numbers, specifications, and appearance defects (such as metal scratches and fabric color variations).
  • In-Process Inspection: Conducts spot checks during welding (checking seam continuity), sanding (surface roughness Ra โ‰ค3.2ฮผm), and installation (screw torque compliance).
  • Final Product Testing: Reduces defect outflow through salt spray tests (48 hours without corrosion on metal parts) and abrasion tests (5,000 friction cycles without fabric damage).

6. Packaging and Warehousing
After final inspection (functional retest and appearance cleaning), the finished product is protected with foam boards or air column bags, with the outer box labeled with model number, batch number, and moisture-proof markings. It is then stored in a temperature- and humidity-controlled warehouse (temperature 20-25ยฐC, humidity 40-60%).
