Prickly Office Chair
The repair methods for a prickly office chair should be selected based on the material and the type of problem. Details are as follows:

I. Prickly Rattan Chairs
Natural rattan or imitation rattan materials can become rough and prickly due to aging, alternating dry and wet environments, or lack of maintenance. The repair steps are as follows:
- Physical Sanding: Wrap 800 - 1000 grit sandpaper with a slightly damp cotton cloth and wipe the burr area uniformly in one direction to avoid damaging the fibers through back-and-forth friction. Use a soft-bristled brush or a vacuum cleaner to clean the dust in the crevices to prevent residual particles from exacerbating the prickly feel.
- Applying Oil: After cleaning and drying, dip a cotton cloth in walnut oil, olive oil, or special rattan furniture maintenance essential oil and apply it evenly to the dry or cracked areas. The oil can penetrate the fibers and soften the surface. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then wipe off the excess oil to avoid a greasy feel.
II. Needle Pricks or Damage on Leather/Fabric Chairs
If the chair is pricked by a needle or has damage, it is necessary to prevent secondary injuries and carry out repairs:
- Remove Sharp Objects: Check the office area to avoid metal objects such as keys and brooches from scratching the chair surface and reduce the risk of further damage.
- Emergency Repair: Small holes can be filled with leather repair glue. For larger needle holes, use leather repair paste combined with hot-melt technology (keep the temperature below 80โ) to prevent high-temperature damage to the material.
- Long-term Maintenance: Apply a leather maintenance agent containing silicone to the damaged area every week to form a waterproof film and slow down aging. When cracks are found, use colored repair paste to cover them and keep the appearance clean.
III. Exposed Steel Wires in Low-quality Bow Chairs
In some low-priced bow chairs, due to poor material quality, the steel wires in the seat cushion filling may penetrate the seat surface. For such problems, contact the manufacturer for replacement or repair. Avoid handling it yourself to prevent the steel wires from breaking or the filling from shifting, which may further damage the chair surface structure.
Preventive Measures
- Keep rattan chairs away from direct sunlight and humid environments. Clean and apply oil regularly to prevent the fibers from drying and cracking.
- Keep leather/fabric chairs away from sharp objects. Regularly check the condition of the filling and repair small holes in a timely manner to prevent them from getting larger.
- When purchasing office chairs, choose products with a manufacturer, a quality certificate, and safety instructions. Avoid low-priced and inferior products that may have material or process defects leading to prickly problems.
