Office Chair Posture Exercise
Admin October 09, 2026
Office chair posture exercises are low-intensity physical activities suitable for the office environment, utilizing chairs to alleviate prolonged sitting fatigue, improve posture, and strengthen muscles. Common types and key points are as follows:

1. 8-Minute Seated Ab Workout
This workout focuses on activating the core muscles and includes four basic exercises:
- Alternating Leg Raises: Sit on the front third of the chair with your back straight, and alternately lift your legs parallel to the ground to strengthen the lower abdominal muscles.
- Under-Leg Claps: Lift your legs at a 45-degree angle and clap your hands alternately under your legs to enhance coordination between the rectus abdominis and oblique muscles.
- Seated Mountain Climbers: Place your hands on the edge of the chair, lean forward, and simulate running by alternately lifting your knees to improve core stability and cardiovascular function.
- Leg Open and Close: Extend your legs outward and then inward while extending your arms forward to comprehensively stimulate the transverse abdominis.
It is recommended to perform 3 sets with a 30-second rest between each set, suitable for shaping the abs and waist.
2. 10-Minute Office Stretching
Designed to address muscle stiffness caused by prolonged sitting, this routine includes 20 exercises, each lasting 30 seconds:
- Neck Stretch: Pull the back of the chair with your right hand and tilt your head to the left to feel the stretch in the right trapezius muscle.
- Shoulder Circles: Draw circles with your shoulders forward/backward to relieve shoulder and neck tension.
- Seated Cat-Cow Pose: Place your hands on your knees, arch your back and lift your head, then lower your head and round your back to relax the spine.
- Quadriceps Stretch: Grab your right ankle with your right hand and gently pull it backward while keeping your pelvis neutral.
This routine covers major muscle groups throughout the body and is suitable for office workers and students to perform daily to prevent issues like rounded shoulders and hunchback.
3. 10-Minute Office Chair Yoga
Improve shoulder, neck, and lower back discomfort through four exercises:
- Front Stretch: Sit upright, place your hands behind your head, spread your elbows outward, lift your head and chest to stretch the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
- Side Stretch: Turn to face the back of the chair, support yourself with one hand on the chair, and extend the other hand upward while bending your body sideways.
- Spinal Twist: Turn your body toward the back of the chair, grab both ends of the chair with your hands, and deepen the twist with your breath.
- Seated Forward Bend: Extend your legs, touch your toes with your hands, and keep your back straight to stretch the hamstrings.
Hold each pose for 5-8 breaths to effectively relieve muscle soreness caused by prolonged sitting.
4. Seated Fitness Method
This method focuses on low-intensity full-body training and includes:
- Warm-up: Perform seated arm circles and ankle rotations to improve joint mobility.
- Abdominal and Back Training: Perform seated crunches and reverse chair supports to strengthen the core.
- Shoulder Training: Perform seated shoulder external rotations to prevent mouse hand.
- Foot Training: Point your toes and lift your heels to promote lower limb blood circulation.
Suitable for people who sit for long periods to perform multiple times a day, each session lasting 5-10 minutes to maintain physical function.
