Office Chair Post Broken

Admin October 16, 2026

If the post of an office chair is broken, targeted repair or replacement measures can be taken according to the specific damage situation.

If the post sinks below the wheels and the chair becomes unbalanced, first check the gas lift and the hole where the gas lift is inserted. If the gas lift is inserted too far, there may be damage at the contact point between the gas lift and the five-star base, preventing it from being locked in place. In this case, replace the damaged parts, such as the gas lift or the five-star base, to restore the chair's balance.

If you encounter a sinking problem, you can try the following methods:

  • Using a hose clamp: Slide the plastic skirt on the chair down to expose the cylindrical part. Adjust the chair to a suitable height and then wrap the hose clamp around the gas cylinder. To enhance the grip of the clamp, you can wrap rubber bands or tape around the gas cylinder before wrapping, or lightly sand the gas cylinder. Tighten the clamp and test if the chair is stable to ensure the sinking problem is resolved.
  • Using PVC pipe: Measure the diameter and length of the chair's cylindrical part and purchase PVC pipe of the appropriate size. Saw the pipe open lengthwise and then slide it over the chair's gas cylinder. This method prevents the chair from sinking by increasing the diameter of the gas cylinder, but be sure to choose the right pipe size to ensure the chair can still be used normally after installation.
  • Replacing the support rod: If the above methods are ineffective, you may need to replace the support rod. Lay the chair on its side, press the lift handle firmly with your left hand, and use a hammer in your right hand to strike the steel base (the contact point between the gas rod and the base) to loosen the gas rod. If it doesn't loosen on the first attempt, remove the base and strike the top of the gas rod, starting from the connection point between the base and the gas rod until it loosens. When replacing, it is recommended to choose a support rod of the same model as the original to ensure compatibility and stability. If you lack the relevant skills, seek help from a professional and regularly check the condition of the support rod to prevent problems from recurring.
