Office Chair Pneumatic Valve
The office chair pneumatic valve is the core component of a pneumatic lifting chair, responsible for adjusting the chair's height through gas pressure. Its safety is closely related to its material and design.

Working Principle of the Pneumatic Valve
The pneumatic valve achieves lifting and lowering functions by controlling the flow of high-pressure gas (usually high-purity nitrogen) inside. When the adjustment lever is pulled, the top valve opens, allowing nitrogen to flow from the lower chamber of the pneumatic rod to the upper chamber, pushing the piston downward and lowering the chair. Conversely, if the valve is closed and external force is applied (such as sitting pressure), the nitrogen is compressed, raising the chair. When the hand is released, the valve automatically closes, and the gas pressure rebalances, locking the chair in position. This process relies on the gas pressure balance mechanism inside the pneumatic rod to ensure smooth and controlled lifting and lowering actions.
Safety Hazards and Causes
Poor-quality pneumatic valves or seals are the main sources of risk. If the material is not pressure-resistant or the sealing is poor, gas leakage may occur, preventing the chair from maintaining its height or causing it to suddenly drop. More seriously, under high-temperature conditions (such as direct sunlight), frequent lifting and lowering, or heavy loads (exceeding the rated weight capacity), the gas inside the pneumatic rod expands due to heat or experiences a sudden increase in pressure, potentially exceeding the limits of a poor-quality valve body and causing an explosion. Although such accidents are rare, their consequences can be severe, potentially resulting in injuries.
Purchase and Usage Precautions
- Certification Standards: Prioritize products that have passed international authoritative certifications such as TรV, SGS, and BIFMA. These certifications impose strict testing requirements on the pressure resistance, sealing, and material safety of pneumatic valves.
- Material and Craftsmanship: Check whether the surface of the pneumatic rod is smooth and free of cracks, and whether the adjustment lever operates smoothly. High-quality products typically use thickened steel tubes and explosion-proof designs, with valve bodies and seals made of materials that are resistant to aging and corrosion.
- Usage Environment: Avoid placing the chair in high-temperature environments (such as near radiators or in direct sunlight) for extended periods. High temperatures accelerate gas expansion, increasing the risk of explosion.
- Weight Limit: Do not exceed the chair's stated maximum weight capacity (usually 100-120 kg). Overloading accelerates wear on the pneumatic valve and shortens its service life.
Daily Maintenance Recommendations
Regularly check whether the adjustment function of the pneumatic valve is working properly. If you find that the chair cannot be raised or lowered steadily, there is a hissing sound indicating gas leakage, or the adjustment lever is loose, stop using it immediately and contact after-sales service. Avoid hitting the pneumatic rod with sharp objects to prevent damage to the valve body or sealing structure.
