Office Chair Pneumatic Knob
The office chair pneumatic knob is typically located beneath the seat, on the side or at the back of the chair backrest, and its main function is to control the height adjustment of the seat or the tightness of the backrest. Its specific roles and working principles vary depending on the function. The following explains two common functions:

Knob for controlling seat height adjustment
The core function of this type of knob is to achieve dynamic adjustment of the seat height by regulating the internal structure of the pneumatic rod. The pneumatic rod is filled with high-pressure gas (usually nitrogen), and the flow of gas is controlled by a valve to change the position of the piston, thereby pushing the seat up or down. When the user rotates the knob clockwise, the internal mechanical structure triggers the valve to open, allowing the gas inside the pneumatic rod to be slowly released. The piston moves downward, bringing the seat down. When rotated counterclockwise, the valve closes or restricts the gas flow. At the same time, some designs may compress the gas through external pressure (such as the user's weight). When the knob releases the restriction, the gas expands, pushing the piston upward and raising the seat. Some low-end products may use a mechanical locking device instead of a pneumatic structure, directly fixing the seat height through thread rotation. However, the adjustment smoothness and durability are usually inferior to those of pneumatic types.
Knob for controlling backrest tightness
This type of knob directly affects the resistance coefficient of the backrest, determining the force required by the user when leaning back. Internally, it is connected to an elastic element (such as a spring or torsion bar) through a threaded structure. Rotating the knob changes the preload of the elastic element. Specifically, when rotated clockwise, the thread advances, compressing the spring or torsion bar. When leaning back, the backrest needs to overcome greater elastic resistance, and the leaning angle is limited. When rotated counterclockwise, the elastic element relaxes, reducing the resistance. The backrest can lean back to a larger angle, even close to a lying-down position. Some high-end products are equipped with segmented adjustment or damping sensing technology, allowing the backrest resistance to change dynamically with the leaning angle, enhancing user comfort.
Usage precautions: When adjusting the height, maintain a stable sitting posture to avoid sudden seat movement caused by rapid rotation, which may pose safety risks. When adjusting the backrest, choose an appropriate resistance according to your weight and habits. If it is too loose, excessive leaning back may occur; if it is too tight, it will increase the pressure on the waist. If the knob gets stuck or fails, stop using it immediately and contact a professional for repair to prevent risks such as pneumatic rod bursting.
