Office Chair Pneumatic Adjustment

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair pneumatic adjustment mainly relies on a pneumatic rod to achieve height adjustment through the cooperation of the control lever and the user's body weight. It is currently the mainstream adjustment method.

Core Components and Principles of Adjustment

The pneumatic rod (gas spring) is the core component. In legitimate products, it is filled with high-pressure nitrogen gas with a purity of โ‰ฅ99%. The height adjustment is achieved through a precise piston structure. When the control lever is pulled up, the piston moves, changing the volume of the gas chamber: when no one is sitting on the chair, the rebound force of the high-pressure nitrogen gas pushes the seat upward; when someone is sitting, their body weight overcomes part of the nitrogen gas pressure, allowing the seat to descend smoothly. Some innovative designs, such as the Ambrose Pneumatic Lumbar-Supporting Ergonomic Chair, adopt an independent pneumatic suspension technology, providing continuous and appropriate lumbar support through dynamic gas pressure adjustment.

Specific Operating Steps

  1. Locate the Control Lever
Find the control lever on the right or left side directly beneath the seat. It is usually a single lever or button. Multi-functional chairs may have two control levers for adjusting the height and the backrest angle separately.

  2. Adjust Your Sitting Posture
Sit on the chair, ensuring that your feet are flat on the ground and your thighs and calves form a 90-degree angle. This posture serves as the adjustment benchmark and helps prevent adjustment failure or seat tilting due to improper posture.

  3. Operate the Control Lever

    • Lever-type: Pull the control lever outward or downward and hold it. If the chair is heavy or the adjustment is not smooth, slightly lift your hips to reduce the pressure from your body weight, making the height adjustment smoother.
    • Button-type: Simply press the button to trigger the adjustment mechanism without the need for continuous force.
  4. Adjust the Height Using Your Body Weight

    • Raise the Seat: Pull up the control lever when no one is sitting on the chair. The rebound force of the high-pressure nitrogen gas pushes the seat upward to the desired height, and then release the control lever.
    • Lower the Seat: Keep sitting and pull up the control lever. Your body weight overcomes part of the nitrogen gas pressure, allowing the seat to descend smoothly to the appropriate position, and then release the control lever.

Precautions

Before operation, ensure that the pneumatic rod is a legitimate product. Avoid using inferior pneumatic rods filled with oxygen or other impure gases to prevent the risk of explosion. Adjust the height slowly to avoid sudden changes in gas pressure caused by rapid lever pulling. If the chair gets stuck or makes abnormal noises, stop using it immediately and check whether the pneumatic rod or control lever is damaged.
