Office Chair Plastic Materials

Admin October 10, 2026

The commonly used plastic materials for office chairs mainly include ordinary plastics, soft PU foam plastics (polyurethane foam plastics), as well as thermosetting plastics and thermoplastic plastics, among others.

Ordinary plastics are the primary materials for common office chairs. Their notable feature is their light weight, which makes it very convenient to move the chairs, whether it's adjusting their positions in daily office scenarios or moving them to other rooms. At the same time, ordinary plastics have a smooth surface and are easy to clean; stains can be removed simply by wiping with a damp cloth, making them suitable for temporary use or places with high requirements for cleaning convenience.

Soft PU foam plastics (polyurethane foam plastics) are often used in the soft parts of office chairs, such as seat cushions and backrests. This material is mainly composed of polyurethane and is made through a foaming process. It has the advantage of being lightweight and does not add excessive weight to the chair. It has excellent elasticity, providing comfortable support for users and effectively relieving body pressure. It has good air permeability, preventing a stuffy feeling after prolonged use. In addition, it has cushioning properties, reducing the impact between the body and the chair. The density of soft PU foam plastics usually ranges from 25 kg/mยณ to 80 kg/mยณ. According to their rebound performance, they can be divided into ordinary types and high-performance types. The rebound coefficient of ordinary types is about 0.35, while that of high-performance types is above 0.5, and they can be selected according to different needs.

In the manufacture of plastic furniture, thermosetting plastics and thermoplastic plastics also play important roles. Thermoplastic plastics have good plasticity and repeatability in processing. They can be used to make chair seats and can be shaped into various forms according to design requirements, meeting the aesthetic and functional needs of different users. At the same time, they can also serve as the covering materials for soft furniture, adding a soft touch and an attractive appearance to the chairs. Thermosetting plastics have high hardness and heat resistance, which can ensure the structural stability and durability of the chairs to a certain extent.
