Pest Infestation in Office Chairs
Admin October 16, 2026
Pest infestation in office chairs requires targeted treatment measures based on the material and type of pests. The core principle is 'immediate removal + environmental modification + prevention of recurrence'. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Treatment for Wooden Office Chairs (Wood-boring Insects/Termites)
Physical Removal
- Use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly clean sawdust accumulations in crevices and holes to prevent egg residue.
- Removable parts (such as chair legs and armrests) can be sealed and frozen for 48 hours (to kill eggs at low temperatures) or exposed to sunlight for 6-8 hours (to repel pests with high temperatures); for fixed parts, use a high-temperature hairdryer to blow continuously on the infested areas for 15 minutes to destroy the pests' living environment.
Chemical Agents
- Drip a small amount of dichlorvos solution into the wormholes (wear a mask and gloves during operation), or block the wormholes with chili powder or pepper powder and then apply paraffin oil (to isolate air and repel pests).
- For large areas of infestation, apply lindane emulsion (do not use on dining furniture) or spray pyrethroid low-toxicity insecticides (ventilate for more than 24 hours).
Preventive Measures
- Maintain indoor dryness and ventilation (humidity below 50%), and regularly wipe furniture surfaces with a dry cloth.
- Apply raw tung oil, shellac, or varnish to unaffected areas to form a protective film that isolates air and moisture.
II. Treatment for Fabric Office Chairs (Mites/Lice/Bed Bugs)
Emergency Treatment
- Use a vacuum cleaner equipped with a crevice tool to clean moving black dots (pest bodies or eggs) in fabric folds and seams.
- Remove chair covers and cushions for high-temperature sun exposure (above 60ยฐC) or heat them with a hairdryer (keep a distance of 10 cm and blow continuously) to destroy the pests' physiological structure.
Chemical Treatment
- Dilute dichlorvos with water at a ratio of 1:5 and spray it, focusing on crevices and the bottom. Spray continuously 3-5 times (with an interval of 1 hour each time). Close doors and windows for 2 hours after application and then ventilate.
- For stubborn infestations, rub diesel oil on the contaminated areas and then expose them to sunlight for 2 hours (diesel evaporation can kill pests). Subsequently, thoroughly clean with detergent solution to remove residues.
III. General Principles
- Immediate Action: Treat pest infestations within 24 hours of discovery to prevent the spread of pests to other furniture.
- Deep Cleaning: Combine physical removal and chemical agents to ensure the eradication of all stages of pests, including eggs and adults.
- Environmental Modification: Reduce the risk of recurrence by controlling humidity (using a dehumidifier), reducing clutter, and cleaning regularly.
- Safety Precautions: Avoid prolonged direct sunlight or soaking of valuable furniture to prevent deformation; wear a mask and gloves during application and keep children and pets away until ventilated.
- Professional Assistance: If the infestation is severe (such as wooden parts being hollowed out or large areas of fabric being damaged) or if the type of pest cannot be determined, contact a pest control company for treatment.
