Office Chair Pest Control
Admin October 08, 2026
Pest control for office chairs requires targeted measures based on the material and type of pests. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Pest Control for Wooden Office Chairs
- Physical Removal: Use a vacuum cleaner to clean out wood shavings, insect droppings, and other residues from crevices to reduce the breeding environment for insect eggs. For detachable parts (such as chair legs and armrests), place them in sealed bags and freeze them at -18ยฐC or below for 48 hours to effectively kill insect eggs.
- High-Temperature Treatment: Use a hairdryer on the high-temperature setting to continuously blow on the worm-eaten areas for 15 minutes, or choose a sunny day to expose the chair to the sun for 6-8 hours (turning it every 2 hours). Alternatively, wrap the chair in a black plastic bag to enhance the sun-exposure effect through heat absorption, which can kill most pests in 6 hours.
- Chemical Treatment:
- Inject a small amount of dichlorvos, pyrethroid, or boric acid insecticides into the wormholes, and then seal the holes with wax to prevent the insecticide from volatilizing.
- Crush chili peppers or Sichuan peppercorns and stuff them into the wormholes, or use a chili-garlic solution (3 dried chili peppers + 5 garlic cloves soaked in water for 24 hours) to brush the chair surface, utilizing the pungent odor to repel pests.
- For severe infestations, use lindane emulsion to brush the wormholes or make a paste to block them. However, note that this insecticide is highly toxic, and thorough ventilation is required after application.
- Preventive Measures: Regularly wipe the chair surface with orange oil or cooked tung oil to form a protective layer that isolates pests. Keep the environment dry and well-ventilated to prevent the wood from getting damp and moldy.
II. Pest Control for Fabric/Public Place Office Chairs
- Dust Mite Treatment: Thoroughly clean dust, hair, and dander, and use a vacuum cleaner to clean crevices. Keep the environment dry and well-ventilated to disrupt the living conditions of dust mites.
- Body Lice/Bed Bug Vigilance: If bite marks or moving black dots are found, use a vacuum cleaner to clean crevices and soak them with a 5% boric acid solution (suitable for bamboo chairs). The fabric parts can be ironed at high temperatures to kill insect eggs.
- Daily Protection: Place a gauze bag filled with Sichuan peppercorns and orange peels under the chair (replace it every quarter) to repel pests with the natural odor. When storing the chair for a long time, wrap it in old newspapers, as the ink components can assist in repelling pests.
III. General Principles
- Emergency Response: Take immediate action upon discovering pests to prevent their spread. Combine physical methods (such as freezing and sun-exposure) with chemical methods (such as insecticides) for comprehensive control.
- Safe Operation: Wear a mask and gloves when applying insecticides, and keep the area well-ventilated to avoid contact by children. Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure for valuable furniture to prevent the wood from cracking.
- Long-Term Prevention: Apply protective coatings (such as raw tung oil or shellac) before the rainy season, and inspect hidden areas (such as the joints of chair legs) weekly to detect and treat pests in a timely manner.
If the pest infestation is severe or the type cannot be confirmed, it is recommended to contact professional pest control services to avoid damaging the furniture or posing health risks through self-treatment.
