Peeling Underneath the Office Chair
Admin October 19, 2026
The following treatment methods can be selected for peeling of an office chair based on the peeling area and degree of aging:

Slight Peeling
- DIY Repair:
- Clean the peeling area: Use a neutral leather cleaner along with a soft damp cloth to wipe along the grain of the leather, removing dust and oil stains. For stubborn stains, use a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of special leather stain remover.
- Sand the edges: After the area is completely dry, use 400 - 600 grit fine sandpaper to gently sand the uneven edges of the peeling area. Be gentle to avoid expanding the damage range. After sanding, use a soft-bristled brush to remove the residue.
- Apply repair paste: Select a leather repair paste that matches the color of the chair. Use a plastic spatula to evenly apply it to the peeling area, with a thickness controlled between 0.5 - 1 millimeter. If there is a significant color difference, apply it in layers and let it dry naturally before applying additional coats.
- Maintenance and care: After 24 hours of drying, use a soft cloth dipped in a small amount of leather conditioner to gently wipe the surface to enhance the flexibility and luster of the repaired area.
- Use a leather renovator: After cleaning the leather surface, evenly spray or apply the renovator according to the product instructions. Multiple operations are required to restore the luster and softness while covering up the peeling marks.
- Use a leather repair paste: Select a repair paste that is similar in color to the chair's leather. After cleaning the peeling area, apply it evenly. Use a spatula or finger to smooth it out so that the repair paste blends with the surrounding leather. After drying, sand and polish it for a better fit.
- Use a leather repair patch: No glue is required. Simply stick a repair patch with a genuine leather texture. It fits well without curling at the edges, and can repair the damage with just a peel-and-stick action.
Severe Peeling
- Partial leather replacement: Suitable when the damaged area of a single piece of leather exceeds 30%. A professional repairer will cut a patch that matches the original leather in material and color, fix it with special glue or stitching, and then spray a paint of the same color system to repair the texture.
- Leather patch + spray painting technique: For multi-layer leather cracking, first stick a non-woven lining to reinforce the base layer, then cover it with a leather patch, and finally use a spray gun to evenly spray acrylic resin paint to simulate the grain of the original leather.
- Overall renovation: If the chair has been in use for more than 5 years and has peeling in multiple places, it is recommended to carry out leather renovation. The process includes deep cleaning, film removal, injury repair, color spraying, and color fixing, which can restore more than 90% of the appearance at a cost of about 800 - 1000 yuan.
- Replace the leather: Measure the size of the part that needs to be replaced, purchase suitable leather material, carefully remove the old leather while keeping the fixing holes and method, then cover it with the new leather and install and fix it with nails, clips, or special tools in the original way.
Quickly cover up flaws: A PU leather chair cover can be used as the most cost-effective temporary solution. It is waterproof, stain-resistant, and easy to install.
