Office Chair Peeling Repair

Admin October 19, 2026

Office chair peeling can be addressed through methods such as edge oil pen repair, hairdryer heat treatment, and a 4-step self-repair method. For severe damage, patching or contacting a professional team is recommended.

Edge Oil Pen Repair Method

This method is suitable for cases where the edge is peeling and the leather is not severely damaged. First, use a utility knife to cut the peeling edge into a 45ยฐ bevel, ensuring the edge is smooth during the cutting process to avoid unevenness that could affect subsequent repair results. After cutting, clean the peeling surface to remove impurities and dust, preventing them from affecting the adhesive's tackiness. Next, use leather soft adhesive to repair the detached area. If the crack is large, pad the crack with non-woven fabric to enhance adhesion. Note: Do not use 502 adhesive, as it may corrode the leather and affect its texture and appearance. Finally, apply a specialized edge oil that matches the leather color in layers. Use a fine-tipped pen to apply the first layer, then dry it with cool air before applying the second layer. This ensures the edge oil is applied more evenly and firmly.

Hairdryer Heat Treatment

For office chairs with minor peeling due to dryness or other reasons, hairdryer heat treatment can be used. Set the hairdryer to the hot air setting and evenly blow hot air over the peeling area, maintaining an appropriate distance during the process to avoid damaging the chair's leather due to excessive temperature. The hot air softens the leather, restoring its flatness.

4-Step Self-Repair Method

This method is suitable for minor peeling, such as edge curling. Step 1: Use a neutral leather cleaner with a soft, damp cloth to wipe and clean the peeling area along the leather grain, removing surface stains and dust. Step 2: After the area is dry, lightly sand the uneven edges of the peeling area with 400-600 grit sandpaper, then use a soft-bristled brush to remove residue, making the repair surface smoother. Step 3: Choose a leather repair paste that matches the chair's color and apply it evenly to the peeling area with a plastic spatula, controlling the thickness to 0.5-1 mm. If the color difference is significant, apply in layers and allow it to dry naturally before reapplying. Step 4: After drying for 24 hours, lightly wipe the surface with a soft cloth dipped in a small amount of leather conditioner to maintain the leather.

If the leather damage area exceeds 5cmยฒ or involves tearing of multiple layers, the above methods may not achieve the desired repair results. In this case, it is recommended to use the "patching method" for repair or contact a professional repair team for handling.
